HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1244 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z Daily Status Report as of 287/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5371 (HST Medium Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium Low Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make low galactic latitude deep multicolor images of objects such as galaxies, and stars in our galaxy. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.2 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of MARK567, ESO137-G34, and ESO139-G126211 to study the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in the AGN. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5508 (Tracking Features in Titan's Lower Atmosphere and on It's Surface) The WF/PC-2 obtained images of Saturn's moon Titan to look for cloud features, and possibly surface features. The observations completed with no reported errors, despite the acquistion failure to coarse track reported in 2.1. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5221 (The Vertical Structure of the Atmosphere of Neptune) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the Planet Neptune to study the structure and composition of the clouds and haze in the upper regions of its atmosphere. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5453 (Deep Imaging of the Giant Luminous Arcs in CL0024+16)) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the rich cluster of galaxies known as CL0024+16 which contain several luminous arcs, which are presumably caused by gravitational lensing of a background galaxy. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5571 (Cycle 4 Calibration: Earth Flats, Smaller Set) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several ultraviolet and narrow-band filter Earth flat calibration observations to correct for the telescope's illumination pattern. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed FOS/BL 5676 (UV Spectroscopy and Imaging of the Crab Crab Nebula - Carryover) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to obtain spectra of several knots and filaments (WM18-05343) in the Crab supernova remnant to refine the estimates the chemical abundances which are needed for comparison with stellar evolution and the nucleosynthesis theory. During the observations there was a recentering event which lasted for six seconds. Otherwise, the observations executed as scheduled, and no other anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed FOC/48 5582 (Monthly Activation - Camera Section Only) This proposal was executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5562 (Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor 3: Darks) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain several 30-minute long, dark exposures to provide ongoing calibration of the CCD dark current and to monitor and characterize the evolution of hot pixels. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 (The primary acquisition at 286/0450 failed to coarse track due to the scan step limit being exceeded.
