HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1248 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z Daily Status Report as of 293/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxies 3C236.0 and 3C266.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxies' morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies: A PC Snapshot Imaging) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the core region of galaxy NGC-3319 to provide statistics on the nuclear cups, stellar condensations, and inner stellar disks and dust lanes. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Complete WF/PC-2 5329 (Coordinated Observations of Neptune's Aerosols: Temporal, Vertical) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain images of the planet Neptune to look for cloud features, including the Great Dark Spot, and to look for temporal variations in the features. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of MARK1073 and MARK516 to study the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in their AGNs. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 1070 (High Resolution Imaging of Radio Galaxies at Large Redshift) The WF/PC-2 was used to make deep images of radio galaxy 3C470 to study the evolution of its stellar population and to look for star formation. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5485 (Long Period Variables of M81) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the long period variables in galaxy M-81 (aka, NGC-3031) to compare to those already studied in our galaxy and the Magellanic Clouds to learn how much of a role is played by the environment in which these stars form. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5143 (Observations of Galaxies Underlying Quasars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the low redshift quasar Q0844+37 to study the morphology of the underlying galaxy. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.8 Completed HRS/2 5468 (The Mass of the White Dwarf of V471 Tauri: Cycle 4 Medium) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to observe the white dwarf in the eclipsing binary system, V471 Tau. The observations were made when the target was at position of greatest elongation on the side of the companion star. The target's velocity curve was found from the strong Lyman Alpha absorption, and will be used to calculate the mass. The observations completed with no reported problems. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5568 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Decon) The WF/PC-2 was used to make an internal flat field calibration observation using the VIS lamp and the internal source as part of a decontamination operation. Dark calibration images were also taken. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 5630 (Luminous Stars in Old Stellar Populations) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of M-32 to study its luminous stars which are located in old stellar populations. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.11 Completed WF/PC-2 5235 (Structures of Quasars and Related Objects (WC10): Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make long exposure observations of quasar 3C345. The objective is to study the structure of the quasar and the underlying galaxy, and any associated galaxies, jets, and gravitational lenses. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 21 Successful : 21 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: HST operations were performed nominally. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time.
