HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1251 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z Daily Status Report as of 298/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of MARK620 and NGC-3362 to study the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in their AGNs. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed COSTAR/FOC 5762 (FOC Point Spread Function Monitoring: Cycle 4) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make an image of an ultraviolet standard star in order to monitor the point-spread function of the HST-COSTAR-FOC channel. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5419 (A Search for Very Low-Luminosity Active Galactic Nuclei in Nearby Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of galaxy NGC-3169, which is known to have ultraviolet bright, low-luminosity, active galactic nuclei. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies: A PC Snapshot Imaging) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the core region of galaxy NGC-1574 to provide statistics on the nuclear cups, stellar condensations, and inner stellar disks and dust lanes. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed Four Sets of FOS/BL 5444 (A UV Spectral Library of Metal- Poor Massive Stars) The Faint Object Spectrograph was safed at 297/0640Z. As a result only standard header packets were generated for these observations. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5663 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4: Photometric Calibration Monitor: Fields Part 2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of globular cluster NGC-6752 with various filters in order to check the photometric calibration of the WF/PC-2. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.7 Completed GHRS/1 5757 (Day Glow Emission Line Profiles from the Outer Planets: Cycle 4 Medium) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to obtain spectra of the planet Saturn to look at Lyman Alpha profiles. It is hoped to learn if these profiles have the same broading as seen on the planet Jupiter. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxy 3C435.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxy's morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed FOS/RD 5455 (The Level of Ionization and Chemical Composition of QSO BAL Region Gas) The Faint Object Spectrograph was safed at 297/0640Z. No observations were completed. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 9 Successful : 8 FGS #2 encountered multiple losses of lock at 297/1315Z. Subsequent reacquisitions were successful. A later reacquisition at 297/1730Z was successful, however, at the exit of LOS, FGS #2 had loss of lock and remained in SSM control. HSTAR 4962 was written. Scheduled Reacquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 13 Successful : 13 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: As documented in HSTAR 4965, FOS safing was initiated at 297/0640 due to 18 speed check errors, reported in the status buffer, which indicate problems in the microprocessor. Except for the loss of lock problems mentioned in Section 2.1, other HST operations were performed nominally. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DM
