HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1254 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z Daily Status Report as of 301/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. The observations were taken in parallel with other prime science observations. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5390 (Observations of the Abated Companion of an Eclipsing Pulsar) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the eclipsing binary pulsar PRS1957+20 to obtain minimum light, in order to determine the temperature of the cool "backside" of the companion star. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.3 Completed GHRS/2 5600 (GHRS Side 2 Wavelength Monitor (1st Order Gratings): Cycle 4) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make wavelength and resolution calibration observations of its first order gratings using the internal calibration lamp. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of MARK595 to study the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in the AGN. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxy 3C107.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxy's morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5447 (The Nature of Primeval Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make deep polarization observations of the distant, massive galaxy MGO406-244 to look for molecular gas, dust, and star formation. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5571 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earthflats, Smaller Set) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several ultraviolet and narrow-band filter Earth flat calibration observations to correct for the telescope's illumination pattern. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.8 Completed FGS 5316 (Masses of Pre-Main Sequence Stars: Cycle 4 Medium) The Fine Guidance Sensors were used in the TRANS Mode to make astrometric observations of the pre-main sequence binary star DF-Tau in the Taurus star forming region. The FGS data will provide the apparent orbits. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5370 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 High, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations as part of a medium-deep sky survey. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.10 Completed FOS/BL 5169 (High Res. Spect. of the Nuclius of NGC-4151: Cycle 4 High) The FOS was commanded to a safe condition, and no observations were taken. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 14 Successful : 14 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: The battery #6 capacity test continues. Discharge was autonomously terminated at 15 volts at 300/1353Z. Capacity was approximately 75.5 A-h at the utility point (versus the predicted capacity of 86.5 A-h, based on the 1992 calibration curve). Re-charge is in progress. Battery #6 will be placed on line when its loadshare is equal to or greater than 80% of the average loadshare of the other five batteries, and the ground calculated battery SOC is at least 470 A-h. FOS was returned to a safe condition at 300/1422Z. Realtime recovery procedures will be re-initiated at 301/1427Z. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
