HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1267 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z Daily Status Report as of 321/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed GHRS/1 5745 (GHRS PSF Imaging Test) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make observations of standard target star source SK-65D21 to determine the Point Spread Function (PSF) for the GHRS/1. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed Four Sets of FOS/BL 5444 (A UV Spectral Library of Metal- Poor Massive Stars) The FOS (Blue Side) was used for a snapshot program to obtain ultraviolet spectra of AV372, a metal-poor star in the LMC. It will be useful for stellar atmosphere and stellar evolution studies. The observations completed without incident. 1.3 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5655 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 2: Flats Part 2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make both dark and visual flats. Part of the fourth group was lost because it was written during a tape recorder switchover. No other anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5663 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4: Photometric Calibration Monitor: Fields Part 2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of globular cluster NGC-6752 with various filters in order to check the photometric calibration of the WF/PC-2. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.5 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5562 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor 3: Darks) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain several 30-minute long, dark exposures to provide ongoing calibration of the CCD dark current and to monitor and characterize the evolution of hot pixels. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5238 (Asteroids (WC16): Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the asteroid 532-Hurcul. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed Two Sets of FOS/BL 5723 (Constraints of Massive Star Evolution From Carbon and Oxygen Abundance.) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make ultraviolet spectral observations of massive Wolf-Rayet stars, HD37680 and HD32257, located in the Large Magellanic Cloud to measure their carbon and oxygen abundances. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei F280 to study the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in the AGN. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed FOC/96 5469 (Externally Illuminated Proto-Stellar Disks and Naked Jets) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make high resolution observations of young stellar objects and proto-planetary disks in NGC-1976 (aka, The Orion Nebula). The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 5397 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance Scale: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of galaxy NGC-3198 to be used in measuring the periods of Cepheid variable stars within the galaxy. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.11 Completed WF/PC-2 5378 (Morphological Evolution of Galaxies in Clusters at Z = 0.5) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of galaxy GAL-CLUS-0 to study its morphology. The exposure time was 1200 seconds. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 4 Successful : 4 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 11 Successful : 11 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: HST operations personnel encountered no significant problems. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
