HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1272 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z Daily Status Report as of 329/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5655 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 2: Flats Part 2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make both dark and visual flats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of NGC-1386 to study the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in the AGN. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5475 (A Snapshot Survey for Blue Stragglers in Magellanic Cluster Cores) The WF/PC-2 was used to make short exposure snapshot images of the blue straggler stars located in populous cluster NGC-1777. The intent is to find out if blue straggler stars exist within this cluster. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of GHRS/2 5406 (The Nature of the Variable Infalling Material of the Star Beta Pictori) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make spectrographic observations to investigate the chemical composition and physical conditions of the disk around the star HD39060 (aka, Beta Pictori). A wavelength calibration image was also taken. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed FOS/RD/BL Three Sets of 5532 (FOS Dark Monitoring) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red and Blue Sides) was used to monitor the instrument's background (dark) images. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed FGS 5334 (Linking the HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference Frame: BR0-11, Part 1) The Fine Guidance Sensors were used to to make astrometric observations of several stars (i.e., 0109+224IN, 120-REF, 121-REF, 122-REF, INCA221-2) to help tie the HIPPARCOS and extragalactic reference frames togather. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5370 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 High, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations as part of a medium-deep sky survey. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.8 Completed Two Sets of FOS/BL 5448 (Spacially Resolved Maps of Optically thick Accretion Disks: Cycle 4 High) The Faint Object spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make ultraviolet spectrographic observations of the 13 th magnitude nova-like optically thick accretion disk of star UX-UMA to map out its structure. The observations were executed as planed, and no anomalies were reported. 1.9 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. The observations were taken in parallel with other prime science observations. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5449 (The Morphologies of Normal Galaxies at High Redshifts: Cycle 4 Medium) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the high redshift normal-appearing galaxies (Field-1418) in the characteristics to be studied are bulge-to-disk ratios, spiral arm structure, and evidence of interactions or mergers. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.10 Completed GHRS/1 5542 (GHRS Side One Wavelength (1st Order Gratings): Cycle 4) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) used the spectral calibration lamp (Side Two) to calibrate the Side One characteristics. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 12 Successful : 12 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 15 Successful : 15 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 25 Successful : 25 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: No anomalies were reported. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
