HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1279 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z Daily Status Report as of 340/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5353 (Low-Mass Binaries in the Hyades: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of the low-mass, late M-Class dwarf stars RHY301 and RHY371 which are located in the Hyades cluster. Some of the companion stars may be brown dwarfs. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5143 (Observations of Galaxies Underlying Quasars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the low redshift quasar PKS1302-10 to study the morphology of the underlying galaxy. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.3 Completed FOS/RD 5535 (Cycle 4 Internal Wavelength Calibration) The Faint Object Spectrograph was used to make internal calibration observations to monitor the stability of the wavelength scale for different gratings. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed FOC/96 5705 (A Color-Magnitude Array of NGC-7099: Cycle 4 Carry-over) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make a series of observations of the globular cluster NGC-7099 in two bands which will be used to build a color-magnitude array. Observations were made at the core of the cluster, and at offsets from the core. There were five reported recentering events which lasted for a total of 29 seconds. No other anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed FOS/RD 5530 (FOS Location of Spectra and Aperture) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make Y-base maps of the FOS detectors using internal lamps. The purpose is to determine the location of the spectra on the diodes. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of UM163 to study the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in the AGN. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed GHRS/2 5421 (Abundances of Very Heavy Elements in the Early Galaxy: Cycle 4 Medium) The High Resolution spectrograph (Side Two) was used to observe the metal-poor halo star HD12256 to attempt to detect lines of the heavy elements platinum, iridium, bismuth, and osmium. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 4 Successful : 4 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 8 Successful : 8 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: No problems to report. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
