HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1298 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z Daily Status Report as of 004/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias, K-Spot, dark, and flat calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the optical alignment, and to check for contamination. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5562 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor 3: Darks) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain several 30-minute long, dark exposures to provide ongoing calibration of the CCD dark current and to monitor and characterize the evolution of hot pixels. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed FOS/RD 5664 (Quasar Absorption Line Survey: Cycle 4 High) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make spectrographic observations of quasi-stellar object EX02040+007 to look for absorption lines due to gas in the intergalactic medium and galactic halos. The binary target acquisition for this observation failed. The maximun total counts in one group was 20, well below the faint limit of 30. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5571 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earthflats, Smaller Set) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several ultraviolet and narrow-band filter Earth flat calibration observations to correct for the telescope's illumination pattern. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. The observations were taken in parallel with other prime science observations. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5351 (Properties of Intermediate Redshift Galactic Disks Causing Damped Lyman-Alpha) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations to study the diffuse material at intermediate redshifts that is identified by absorbing Lyman-Alpha spectra from quasar PKS0454+03. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed FOS/RD 5588 (FOS Prism Snapshot Survey) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make a Prism observation of quasi-stellar object PKS0454+03 to study its optical to ultraviolet continuum shape. The observation was executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed FOS/BL 5666 (Optical Counterparts of Radio Pulsars (FOS 38) Carryover Observations) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make observations of the Crab Nebula Pulsar to determine the ultraviolet spectral index for the non-thermal radiation and to look for breaks in the spectrum, as well as possible absorption lines from intervening gas. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5371 (HST Medium_ Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium Low Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make low galactic latitude deep multicolor images of objects such as galaxies, and stars in our galaxy. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 5408 (Star Cluster and CNO Abundance in Blue Compact Galaxies With Extreme) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the star formation regions within the low metallicity blue compact galaxy SBS0335-05 to be used to determine the size, color, and luminosity of imbedded star clusters. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 8 Successful : 8 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: Data inversions continue to occur often during STGT support periods. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /CAW -END-
