HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1299 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z Daily Status Report as of 005/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5562 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor 3: Darks) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain several 30-minute long, dark exposures to provide ongoing calibration of the CCD dark current and to monitor and characterize the evolution of hot pixels. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed FGS 5336 (Linking the HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference Frame: NEWHIP-B) The Fine Guidance Sensor #3 was used to make astrometric observations of objects NEWEGOB-19, 220-REF, 221-REF, 222-REF, and NEWHIP-19. The observations were executed as scheduled. No anomalies were reported. 1.3 Completed FGS 5557 (Intermediate Plate Scale: Cycle 4 Calibration) FGS #3 was used to make astrometric observations of stars 4727-25, HD65949, 4727-J-REF, 4727-H-REF, 4727-227-R, 4727-B-REF, 4727-C-REF, 4727-K-REF, 4727-M-REF, et. al to be used for plate scale calibrations. These stars were also observed using the HIPPARCOS satellite. The observation were executed as schedule, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5370 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 High, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations as part of a medium-deep sky survey. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5354 (Imaging in the Crab Nebula) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of NGC-1952-BR (aka, M-1, the Crab Nebula) to study ionization structure and to look for hot spots. The exposure time was shortened by 44 seconds. This occurred because of a late shutter opening caused by a late guide star acquisition. This event was documented by HSTAR 5077. 1.6 Completed FOS/RD 5441 (The Inner Regions of Quasars: Cycle 4) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make spectrographic observations of the variable quasar B21351+31. The observations will be correlated with radio and X-Ray data for this object. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies have been reported. 1.7 Completed FGS 5337 (Linking the HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference Frame: NEWHIP-C) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of NEWEGOC-47, 420-REF, 421-REF, 422-REF, and NEWHIP-47 to help tie the HIPPARCOS and extra-galactic reference frames together. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5397 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance Scale: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of galaxy NGC-3621 to be used in measuring the periods of Cepheid variable stars within the galaxy. The observations were completed as planned. OSS software reported problems with 35 segments scattered throughout the observation. The DCF also reported bit slips in the data they received. The observation was written on side 2 of tape recorder 2. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5764 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Flats - Repeat) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal flat calibration images using the VIS lamp and internal sources. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed FOS/BL 5530 (FOS Location of Spectra and Aperture) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make Y-base maps of the FOS detectors using internal lamps. The purpose is to determine the location of the spectra on the diodes. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 9 Successful : 9 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 13 Successful : 13 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: There were two periods of data inversions while interfacing with STGT. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /CAW -END-
