HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1300 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z Daily Status Report as of 006/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FGS 5336 (Linking HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference Frame Newhip-B, Part 1) The Fine Guidance Sensor #3 was used to make two sets of astrometric observations of object NEWEGOB-23. The observations were executed as scheduled. No anomalies were reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5370 (HST Medium Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium High Galactic Latitude - CR Split) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations as part of a medium-deep sky survey. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5354 (Imaging in the Crab Nebula) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of NGC-1952-BR (aka, M-1, the Crab Nebula) to study ionization structure and to look for hot spots. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5571 (Cycle 4 Calibration: Earth Flats, Smaller Set) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several ultraviolet and narrow-band filter Earth flat calibration observations to correct for the telescope's illumination pattern. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5768 (The Disks Around Young Stellar Objects - HL Tau) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain images of HL Tau which is a star in the Taurus star formation region. The images will be used to look for scattered light to determine the physical properties of the circumstellar material in the molecular cloud. No anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5132 (A Photometric Search for Planets of Nearby Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric observations of nearby star HD16160 to search for possible planets. The exposure time was calculated so that area beyond 1.2 arcseconds from the central star is not saturated. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5764 (Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Flats - Repeat) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal flat calibration images using the VIS lamp and internal sources. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5397 (Determination of Extragalactic Distance Scale: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of galaxy NGC-3351 to be used in measuring the periods of Cepheid variable stars within the galaxies. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby SO and Spiral Galaxies: A PC Snapshot Imaging Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the core region of galaxy IC755 to provide statistics on the nuclear cusps, stellar condensations, and inner stellar disks and dust lanes. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed FOS/BL 5095 (Spectra at Lambda <3000A for QSOs with Z About 2) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make ultraviolet spectral observations of the absorption lines and high-ionization emission lines in QSO PKS1148-00. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were noted. 1.11 Completed WF/PC-2 5562 (Cycle 4 Calibrations: Internal Monitor 3: Darks) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain several 30-minute long, dark exposures to provide ongoing calibration of the CCD dark current and to monitor and characterize the evolution of hot pixels. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.12 Completed FOS/BL 5588 (FOS Prism Snapshot Survey) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make a Prism observation of quasi-stellar object PKS1148-00 to study its optical to ultraviolet continuum shape. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.13 Completed Two Sets pf FOS/BL 5444(A UV Spectral Library of Metal-Poor Massive Stars) The FOS (Blue Side) was used for a snapshot program to obtain ultraviolet spectra of HD269357, NS91-70, and B197, all metal-poor stars in the LMC. It will be useful for stellar atmosphere and stellar evolution studies. The observations completed without incident. 1.14 Completed WF/PC 5342-2 (UV Imaging of Intermediate Age Magellanic Cloud Clusters: Hot Stellar) The WF/PC-2 was used to make ultraviolet observations of the star cluster NGC-1835 which is located in the Large Magellanic Cloud to determine the nature of its hot stellar components. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.15 Completed FOS/BL 5702 (Extreme Stellar Winds and Post-Main Sequence Evolution) The FOS (Blue Side) was used to obtain spectra of one Ofpe/WNL star in the LMC. This class of stars appears to have properties between those of Wolf-Rayet stars and Ofpe stars. The observations were completed as planned with no reported problems. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 9 Successful : 9 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 15 Successful : 15 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: STGT data inversions continue.
