HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1309 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z Daily Status Report as of 020/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5655 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 2: Flats Part 2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make both dark and visual flats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxies 3C31.0, 3C254.0 and 3C42.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxies' morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed FOC/96 5670 (FOC Internal Relative Calibrations) The Faint Object Camera was used to make internal flat calibrations images. The relative pixel to pixel response of the FOC field of view was measured using the onboard LEDs. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5236 (Nuclei of Nearby Normal Galaxies: Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of nearby galaxy NGC-589-NUC to obtain luminosity and color gradients, and to search for bright stars, globular clusters, and interstellar dust. Science Tape Recorder #2 was not configured to record WF/PC-2 observations at 019/0825Z and two observations were lost. The process of respooling did no complete in time for the recording session. HSTAR 5094 was written. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5085 (Turbulence in H II Regions) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the small scale turbulent H II regions located in NGC-1976-6 (aka, the Orion Nebula) using several different line and continuum filters. Ten adjacent fields of view were images. No anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5234 (Faint Clusters of Galaxies (WC09): Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of faint galaxy cluster Gal-CLUS-13 to monitor the observations and assess the data quality. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5415 (The Distance to M-96 Galaxy Group: Cycle 4 Medium) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of Cepheid variable stars within the galaxy UGC-5889 which itself is located in the M-96 galaxy cluster. This is to help determine the distance to this galactic group, and to improve the determination of the Hubble constant. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 5571 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earthflats, Smaller Set) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several ultraviolet and narrow-band filter Earth flat calibration observations to correct for the telescope's illumination pattern. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 15 Successful : 14 There was one FHST update which failed for unknown reasons. However, subsequent updates using the same star were successful. No other anomalies were noted. 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: A SADE-1R functional test will be conducted later today. STGT bit inversions continue to occur periodically. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
