HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1316 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z Daily Status Report as of 031/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FOS/RD 5441 (The Inner Regions of Quasars: Cycle 4) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make spectrographic observations of the variable quasar 4C64-15. The observations will be correlated with radio and X-Ray data for this object. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies have been reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. The observations were taken in parallel with other prime science observations. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed FGS 5333 (Linking the HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference frame: BR12-23, Part 2) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of several stars (i.e., 1404+286IN, 420-REF and INCA221-92) whose apparent position lies near extragalactic objects. All of these objects have been observed by the HIPPARCOS satellite. The intent is to tie the HIPPARCOS reference frame to the extragalactic reference frame. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed FGS 5370 (Linking the HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference Frame, BR12-23, Part 2) The FGSs were used to obtain astrometric observations on several stars whose apparent positions lie near extragalactic objects. These stars will also be observed with the HIPPARCOS satellite. The intent is to tie the HIPPARCOS reference frame to the extragalactic frame. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias, K-Spot, and flat calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the optical alignment, and to check for contamination. There was data lost from one data group due to a Science Tape Recorder track change. No other anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5574 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4: Polarization Proposal) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of G191B2B to obtain both polarized and unpolarized images of the target to calibrate the instrument. Visual flat observations was also taken. Fine Lock was lost just before the start of one exposure. The spacecraft was under gyro control during this exposure. No other anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5485 (Long Period Variables of M81) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the long period variables in galaxy M-81 (aka, NGC-3031) to compare to those already studied in our galaxy and the Magellanic Clouds to learn how much of a role is played by the environment in which these stars form. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5399 (Ultra-deep HST Imaging of the Hawaii Deep Survey Fields) The WF/PC-2 was used to make ultra-deep observations of object SSA13. These fields of view have already been imaged with ground based telescopes, and with the Faint Object Camera, to survey the galaxy populations. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed of WF/PC-2 5562 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor 3: Darks) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain several 30-minute long, dark exposures to provide ongoing calibration of the CCD dark current and to monitor and characterize the evolution of hot pixels. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 5629 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Photometric Calibration Monitor 1C: 4-Chip STD in F170W) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric calibration observations of the ultraviolet standard star GRW+70D582. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.11 Completed FGS 5337 (Linking the HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference Frame: NEWHIP-C) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of NEWEGOC-48, 520-REF, 521-REF, 522-REF and NEWHIP-48 to help tie the HIPPARCOS and extra-galactic reference frames together. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.12 Completed WF/PC-2 5128 (Search for Primeval Galaxies (FOS 25): Cycle 4 Early ACQ Imaging) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the very distant galaxy/quasar 1442+101 to search for other nearby galaxies that may be at the same distance. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 9 Successful : 9 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 17 Successful : 17 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: With the exception of the STGT data inversions, there are no problems to report. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
