HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1319 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z Daily Status Report as of 034/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed GHRS/2 5715 (Probing the Voids II - Carryover) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make observations of the active galactic nuclei located in galaxy MARK421. This galaxy is known to be located behind an extra-galactic void. This is to study the nature, abundance and distribution of H I absorbing clouds. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.2 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of ESO374-G44 and MARK759 to study the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in these AGNs. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 1070 (High Resolution Imaging of Radio Galaxies at Large Redshift) The WF/PC-2 was used to make deep images of radio galaxy 3C65 to study the evolution of its stellar population and to look for star formation. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies: A PC Snapshot Imaging) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the core region of galaxies NGC_1366 and NGC-1425 to provide statistics on the nuclear cusps, stellar condensations, and inner stellar disks and dust lanes. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5302 (The Size and Morphology of Normal Galaxies at Z ~ 3) The WF/PC-2 was used to make Lyman_Alpha emission observations of galaxy PKS0528-25 which is known to have a redshift of Z ~ 3. It is hoped that the nature of this source can be determined. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias, K-Spot, and flat calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the optical alignment, and to check for contamination. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5571 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earthflats, Smaller Set) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several ultraviolet and narrow-band filter Earth flat calibration observations to correct for the telescope's illumination pattern. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5574 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4: Polarization Proposal) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of G191B2B to obtain both polarized and unpolarized images of the target to calibrate the instrument. Visual flat observations was also taken. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5463 (Buried QSOs in IRAS-Selected Ultra luminous AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the luminous IRAS active galactic nuclei of galaxy MARK463E to try and resolve the polarized scattering regions in its core. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 11 Successful : 11 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: Aside from data inversions at STGT, no problems have been reported. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
