HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1325 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 02/10/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 02/13/95 Daily Status Report as of 044/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5655 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 2: Flats Part 2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make both dark and visual flats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxies 3C381.0 and 3C103.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxies' morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed FGS 5587 (Parallaxes of Hyades Cluster Members: Cycle 4 High) The Fine Guidance Sensors were used to make observations of stars in the Hyades Cluster (i.e., PCEN622, VA627, AST113-REF, AST112-REF, AST116-REF, VA627, VA622, et. al. ) to determine the parallax of the stars and to compute the distance modulus of the cluster. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5092 (GTO Low Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations. This is part of a survey to take pictures of a large number of fields within 30 degrees of the galactic plane. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5132 (A Photometric Search for Planets of Nearby Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric observations of nearby star HD16160 to search for possible planets. The exposure time was calculated so that area beyond 1.2 arcseconds from the central star is not saturated. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5629 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Photometric Calibration Monitor 1C: 4-Chip STD in F170W) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric calibration observations of the ultraviolet standard star GRW+70D582. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed GHRS/2 5600 (GHRS Side 2 Wavelength Monitor (1st Order Gratings): Cycle 4) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make wavelength and resolution calibration observations of its first order gratings using the internal calibration lamp. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.8 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5109 (A Deep Survey at High Galactic Latitudes (WC06): Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make long exposures of a high galactic latitude field to learn more about the number and morphology of distant galaxies and the luminosity function of stars in our galaxy. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias, K-Spot, and flat calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the optical alignment, and to check for contamination. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5574 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4: Polarization Proposal) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of G191B2B to obtain both polarized and unpolarized images of the target to calibrate the instrument. Visual flat observations was also taken. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.11 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5568 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Decontamination) The WF/PC-2 was used to make an internal flat field calibration observation using the VIS lamp and the internal source as part of a decontamination operation. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.12 Completed WF/PC-2 5563 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Photometric Calibration Monitor 1: UV /OPT STD.) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric calibration images of ultraviolet standard star GRW+70D582 and monitor the photometric stability and quantum efficiency of the WF/PC-2. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.13 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies: A PC Snapshot Imaging) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the core region of galaxies NGC-4276 and NGC-1373 to provide statistics on the nuclear cusps, stellar condensations, and inner stellar disks and dust lanes. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.14 Completed FOS/BL 5444 (A UV Spectral Library of Metal- Poor Massive Stars) The FOS (Blue Side) was used for a snapshot program to obtain ultraviolet spectra of AV377 a metal-poor star in the LMC. It will be useful for stellar atmosphere and stellar evolution studies. The observations completed without incident. 1.15 Completed GHRS/2 5389 (The Nature of Interstellar Cloud Envelopes: Physical Conditions) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make observations of star HD148184 to study the nature of the interstellar cloud envelopes in the line of sight of the star. The observations were executed as scheduled and no anomalies were noted. 1.16 Completed FOS/BL 5674 (Ultraviolet Eclipse Mapping of the Accretion Flow in Binary Stars) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make ultraviolet spectrographic observations of eclipsing binary star EX-Hya to map its accretion flow. This binary system has a white dwarf star which is accreting matter from its companion star. HSTAR 5124 reported that a microprocessor speed check failed for two consecutive major frames at 043/0248Z. It passed of the third major frame. A status buffer error message was received. No other anomalies were noted. 1.17 Completed WF/PC-2 5397 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance Scale: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of galaxy NGC-3621 to be used in measuring the periods of Cepheid variable stars within this galaxy. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.18 Completed FGS 5335 (Linking the HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference Frame NEWHIP) The Fine Guidance Sensors #3 was used to make astrometric observations of a large group of stars and extra galactic objects (i.e., NEWGOA-11, 320-REF, 321-REF, 322-REF, NEWHIP-11, et al.) which are known to have a small angular separation. These data will be used to determine the systematic rotation offset of the reference frame of the HIPPARCOS astrometry satellite. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.19 Completed WF/PC-2 5370 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations as part of a medium-deep sky survey. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.20 Completed WF/PC-2 5512 (Cores of Early Type Galaxies: Part II) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the nucleus of early type galaxy NGC-7457 The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.21 Completed FOS/RD 5535 (Cycle 4 Internal Wavelength Calibration) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make internal calibration observations to monitor the stability of the wavelength scale for different gratings. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.22 Completed WF/PC-2 5353 (Low-Mass Binaries in the Hyades: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of the low-mass, late M-Class dwarf star RHY202 which are located in the Hyades cluster. Some of the companion stars may be brown dwarfs.
