HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1328 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 02/15/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 02/16/95 Daily Status Report as of 047/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5655 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 2: Flats Part 2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a dark calibration image. The observation was completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies: A PC Snapshot Imaging) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the core region of galaxy NGC-4378 to provide statistics on the nuclear cusps, stellar condensations, and inner stellar disks and dust lanes. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5764 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Flats - Repeat) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal flat calibration images using the VIS lamp and internal sources. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5397 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance Scale: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of galaxy NGC-2090 to be used in measuring the periods of Cepheid variable stars within this galaxy. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed FGS 5135 (Extragalactic Astrometry and Astrophysics, FT0-11, Part 1 of Two) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of a set of stars (i.e., 0818-128IN, 1420-REF, 1422-REF, and INCA221-44) to obtain data needed to measure the HIPPARCOS reference frame with respect to the extragalactic reference frame. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5092 (GTO Low Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations. This is part of a survey to take pictures of a large number of fields within 30 degrees of the galactic plane. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5663 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4: Photometric Calibration Monitor: Fields Part 2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of globular cluster NGC-5139 with various filters in order to check the photometric calibration of the WF/PC-2. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.8 Completed FOS/BL 5674 (Ultraviolet Eclipse Mapping of the Accretion Flow in Binary Stars) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make ultraviolet spectrographic observations of eclipsing binary star EX-Hya to map its accretion flow. This binary system has a white dwarf star which is accreting matter from its companion star. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. The observations were taken in parallel with other prime science observations. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of NGC-5135 to study the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in the AGN. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 3 Successful : 3 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 15 Successful : 15 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 1 Successful : 1 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: The recharge of Battery #5, a part of the three-day Battery #5 capacity test which began yesterday, continues as do the reports of data inversions at STGT. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
