HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1338 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 03/01/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 03/02/95 Daily Status Report as of 061/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6140 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Ramp filters, Internal Calibration) The WF/PC-2 was used to make Earth calibration images as part of a ramp filter calibration test. The observations were completed as planned and no problems were reported. 1.2 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5562 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor 3: Darks) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain several 30-minute long, dark exposures to provide ongoing calibration of the CCD dark current and to monitor and characterize the evolution of hot pixels. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed FGS 4884 (High Speed Astrometry: A Search for Astrometric Companions to Low Mass Stars) The FGSs were used to make observations of Barnard's star to look for astrometric companions (i.e., a Jupiter-sized companion). The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5092 (GTO Low Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations. This is part of a survey to take pictures of a large number of fields within 30 degrees of the galactic plane. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed FOC/96 5148 (A Search for Massive Stars in Giant III Regions in M31) The FOC/f96 observed BA289, a HII region of various metallicities in M31. Color magnitude diagrams will be constructed for the massive stars within the region, and the upper mass cutoff will be studied, adding to the understanding of star formation. HSTAR 5140 reported that FGS #1 failed to acquire Fine Lock at 060/0705Z. However, Coarse Track was successful. All subsequent acquisitions were also successful. No other anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed FOS/RD 5434 (The Stellar Population and Star Forming History of IZW18: Cycle 4 Medium) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make observations of the dwarf galaxy IZW18 which has an extremely low O/H abundance. It is hoped that this will characterize the stellar population and star formation history of this galaxy. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5234 (Faint Clusters of Galaxies (WC09): Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of faint galaxy cluster GAL-CLUS-16 to monitor the observations and assess the data quality. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed GHRS/2 5547 (GHRS Side 2 Detector Calibrations: Cycle 4) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side 2) was used to make a internal flat calibration image to help check the stability of the detectors. The observation as completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 3 Successful : 2 FGS #1 failed a Fine Lock guide star acquisition at 060/0705Z.
