HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1347 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 03/14/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 03/15/95 Daily Status Report as of 074/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias, K-Spot, and flat calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the optical alignment, and to check for contamination. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of PADOVA1, UGC-3255, NGC-1667, and IR0450-032 to study the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in these AGNs. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5655 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 2: Flats Part 2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make dark calibration images. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed FGS 6148 (Cross Filter Calibration) The FGS #3 was used to make cross filter calibration observations using various filters and positional offsets. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5372 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, Low Galactic Latitude, C-R Split) The WF/PC-2 was used to make low galactic latitude observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations. The observations were completed as scheduled in fine lock without apparent anomaly. 1.6 Completed FOS/RD 5451 (The Absorption Cross-sections of Nearby Galaxies) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to observe light from quasi-stellar object 1543+489, which acts as a probe as it passes the outer reaches of a nearby galaxy. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. The observations were taken in parallel with other prime science observations. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed GHRS-2 5158 (Zeta Oph Heavy Interstellar Elements: Cycle 4) + The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make observations of the interstellar medium along the line of sight of the star Zeta Ophiuchi (aka, HD149757) to study heavy elements, specifically lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd) and Molybdenum (Mo). The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 6142 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earth Flats, Smaller Set Part II) The WF/PC-2 was used to make Earth Flat calibration images for the ultraviolet and narrow-band filters to correct for the telescope's illumination pattern. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 A guide star acquisition failed in FGS #2 and 3 and achieved coarse track on FGS #3 at 074/0451Z Scheduled Reacquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 8 Successful : 8 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: Aside from the STGT data inversions and the observations affected by the FGS failure to maintain fine lock, there were no operational problems to report. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
