HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1348 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 03/15/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 03/16/95 Daily Status Report as of 075/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5655 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 2: Flats Part 2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make visual flat calibration images. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5353 (Low-Mass Binaries in the Hyades: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of the low-mass, late M-Class dwarf star RHY129 which is located in the Hyades cluster. Some of its companion stars may be brown dwarfs. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.3 Completed FOS/BL 5459 (Ultraviolet Interstellar Polarization: Cycle 4 High) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make ultraviolet spectrographic observations of the bright star HD38087 to study interstellar polarization along the line of sight to the star. This is to study interstellar grains that are responsible for the extinction and polarization of the star light. A guide star acquisition failed in FGS #2 and 3 and achieved coarse track on FGS #3 at 074/0451Z (HSTAR 5154). Subsequent reacquisitions were successful. No other anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. The observations were taken in parallel with other prime science observations. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 1070 (High Resolution Imaging of Radio Galaxies at Large Redshift) The WF/PC-2 was used to make deep images of radio galaxy 3C266 to study the evolution of its stellar population and to look for star formation. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.6 Completed FOC/96 5140 (Observations of the Narrow Line Regions in Nearby Seyfert Galaxies) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make observations at several wavelengths of Seyfert galaxy MRK3 and Cygnus A, to study the narrow line region, the morphology relations between radio and optical emission and continuum and line emissions, et. al. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5370 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations as part of a medium-deep sky survey. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5461 (Low Luminosity Stars In Globular Clusters: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the core region of globular cluster M-4 to look for low luminosity stars. A color magnitude diagram will be made for these low luminosity stars. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 6142 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earth Flats, Smaller Set Part II) The WF/PC-2 was used to make Earth Flat calibration images for the ultraviolet and narrow-band filters to correct for the telescope's illumination pattern. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 4 The FGS #2 and #3 guide star acquisition failed to coarse track at 075/0303Z. The search limit radius was exceeded. The system defaulted to a single FGS #3 acquisition. Total coarse track time was 156 minutes (HSTAR 5157). Scheduled Reacquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 14 Successful : 14 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: The generic data inversions at STGT continue and there was another case of a guide star acquisition failing to achieve fine lock. There are no operational problems to report. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
