HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1360 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 03/31/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 04/03/95 Daily Status Report as of 093/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FOS/BL 5539 (Cycle 4 FOS Photometric Monitor) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) used standard star HZ-44 to calibrate the absolute sensitivity of its detectors. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6142 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earth Flats, Smaller Set Part II) The WF/PC-2 was used to make Earth Flat calibration images for the ultraviolet and narrow-band filters to correct for the telescope's illumination pattern. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed FOS/BL 6146 (FOS Location of Spectra and Aperture - Part 2) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to conduct a test to determine the repeatability of positioning the filter-grating wheel. All observations were internal. A wave length calibration image was also taken. All observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed Four Sets of WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of IC4687, IR1832-594, IR1833-654, NGC-6221, NGC-6300, NGC-6397, NGC-3281, ESO438-G9, and MARK686 to study the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in these AGNs. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5366 (The Chronology of the Galactic Halo and Disk) The WF/PC-2 was used to make both deep and short exposure observations of galactic globular cluster NGC-6637. The intent is to study the chronology of the formation of the galactic halo and disk by estimating the ages of these clusters from the color-magnitude diagrams produced from these exposures. The images were reported to look nominal. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias, K-Spot, and flat calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the optical alignment, and to check for contamination. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed GHRS/2 5673 (Cepheid Masses: Cycle 4 High, Part 2) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make observations of Cepheid star HD172167-C to measure its radial velocity. A wavelength calibration image was also taken. A Loss of Lock occurred at 090/2336Z during a ZOE. Fine Lock was reestablished at 090/2337Z. No science data was lost. No other anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxy 3C386.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxy's morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Complete WF/PC-02 5439 (The Calibration of White Dwarf Distance Scale for Globular Clusters) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of white dwarf NGC-6752 to help use the cooling sequence of the white dwarf to determine distances. The observations were executed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 5485 (Long Period Variables of M81) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the long period variables in galaxy M-81 (aka, NGC-3031) to compare to those already studied in our galaxy and the Magellanic Clouds to learn how much of a role is played by the environment in which these stars form. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.11 Completed WF/PC-2 5773 (WF/PC-2 Augmentation - NGC-604 and M-16 : Cycle 4 and Future Cycles) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the H II regions M16-A to obtain both emission line and continuum images. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.12 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. The observations were taken in parallel with other prime science observations. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.13 Completed WF/PC-2 5370 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations as part of a medium-deep sky survey. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.14 Completed FOS/BL 5743 (Pluto's FUV Spectrum: CO Abundance and FUV Survey, Carryover from 3803) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make far-ultraviolet observations of the planet Pluto (excluding its moon Charon) to study CO abundance and conduct a FUV survey. A Taled calibration observation was also taken. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 20 Successful : 20 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 18 Successful : 18 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 27 Successful : 27 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: Data inversions continue to be reported during operations supported at STGT.
