HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1364 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 04/06/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 04/07/95 Daily Status Report as of 097/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FGS 4687 (A Critical Test of the Galactic Escape Velocity at R(sun): Cycle 4 Medium) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of the high velocity stars G166-37, G166-REF, G166B-REF and G166L-REF to measure its velocity and parallax. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. The observations were taken in parallel with other prime science observations. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5370 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations as part of a medium-deep sky survey. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5415 (The Distance to M-96 Galaxy Group: Cycle 4 Medium) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of Cepheid variable stars within the galaxy NGC-3368 which itself is located in the M-96 galaxy cluster. This is to help determine the distance to this galactic group, and to improve the determination of the Hubble constant. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.5 Completed FOS/RD/S/C 5528 (FOS Cycle 4: Focus, X-Patch, Y-Patch) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make both Dark and WAVE calibration observations. No external sources were used. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5663 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4: Photometric Calibration Monitor: Fields Part 2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of globular cluster NGC-5139 with various filters in order to check the photometric calibration of the WF/PC-2. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5397 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance Scale: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of galaxy NGC-4414 to be used in measuring the periods of Cepheid variable stars within this galaxy. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5629 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Photometric Calibration Monitor 1C: 4-Chip STD in F170W) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric calibration observations of the ultraviolet standard star GRW+70D582. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed FOS/RD 6141 (The Aftermath of SL-9 and Jupiter) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make spectrographic observations of the planet Jupiter to study the aftermath of the impact of the comet SL-9. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 13 Successful : 13 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: Data inversions continue to occur during STGT operations. On each of the last two days, bit slips have been present in ESTR #2 dumps. In both cases, the number of bit slips decreased to about half the original number when the ESTR was re-dumped. Engineers are reviewing the data to determine the cause. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
