HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1367 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 04/11/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 04/12/95 Daily Status Report as of 102/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5215 (The Martian Surface and Atmosphere) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of Mars during its current opposition to study its atmosphere and surface. The purpose is to place more stringent constraints on the atmospheric water, ozone, airborne dust, surface optical properties, and iron mineralogy. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias, K-Spot, and flat calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the optical alignment, and to check for contamination. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5655 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 2: Flats Part 2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make flats calibration observation images. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of MARK1459, and NGC-7590 to study the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in these AGNs. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed GHRS/2 5724 (Absorption Cloud Physics in Seyfert Galaxy Nuclei) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make observations of Seyfert Galaxy NGC-3783 to study absorption cloud physics in the nuclear region. A wavelength calibration observations was also taken. The guide star acquisition at 101/0805Z failed to coarse track during a ZOE (HSTAR 5174). No other anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed FOS/RD 5535 (Cycle 4 Internal Wavelength Calibration) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make internal calibration observations to monitor the stability of the wavelength scale for different gratings. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed FOS/RD 6150 (Detecting the Hydroxyl Radical in the Jovian Magnetosphere) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make observations of the abundance of OH in the Jovian magnetosphere near the torus of the moon Europa. the observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 3 Successful : 3 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 12 Successful : 11 Failed reacquisition due to an attitude error at 102/0529Z (HSTAR 5175). The FHST update at 102/0630 corrected the error, and subsequent observations were successful. 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 9 Successful : 9 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: The data inversions continue during STGT operations. The bit slips on ESTR #2 dumps, first reported last week, are still occurring. When the dumps and the re-dumps are merged at the DCF, the quality of the merged WF/PC-2 observations are improved. Analysis of the problem is continuing. 3.0 ANOMALY STATUS: 3.1 Significant New Anomalies: None 3.2 Significant Unresolved Anomalies: None 4.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
