HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1382 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 05/02/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 05/03/95 Daily Status Report as of 123/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies: A PC Snapshot Imaging) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the core region of galaxy NGC-1341 to provide statistics on the nuclear cusps, stellar condensations, and inner stellar disks and dust lanes. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias, K-Spot, Dark and flat calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the optical alignment, and to check for contamination. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5655 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 2: Flats Part 2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make both dark and visual flats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of F315 to study the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in the AGN. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5397 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance Scale: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of galaxy NGC-4725 to be used in measuring the periods of Cepheid variable stars within the galaxy. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed GHRS/2 5600 (GHRS Side 2 Wavelength Monitor (1st Order Gratings): Cycle 4) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make wavelength and resolution calibration observations of its first order gratings using the internal calibration lamp. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.7 Completed GHRS/2 5424 (High Resolution Observations of the Jovian UV Aurora: Cycle 4 Medium) The High Resolution Spectrograph was used to make high resolution ultraviolet spectrographic observations of the aurora on the planet Jupiter short of 2000 A0. The goal is to determine the kinetic temperatures of the auroral region and the range of altitudes over which precipitating auroral particles deposit their energy and H2 Lyman and Werner Band emissions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed FOS/RD/S/C 5528 (FOS Cycle 4: Focus, X-Patch, Y-Patch) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Both the Red and Blue Sides) was used to make both Dark and WAVE calibration observations. No external sources were used. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 15 Successful : 15 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: No operational problems were reported. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
