HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1383 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 05/03/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 05/04/95 Daily Status Report as of 124/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxy 3C175.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxy's morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5572 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4: Photometric Filter Calibration) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of GRW+70D582 to make photometric calibrations for all of the WF/PC-2 filters. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5655 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 2: Flats Part 2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make both dark and visual flats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed FGS 6147 (Extragalactic Astronomy and Astrophysics Final: Cycle 4 Observations) The FGSs were used to make observations of targets NEWEGOB-35, 1520-REF, 1521-REF, 5122-REF and NEWHIP-35. The objective of this long-term program is to determine the rotation of the HIPPARCOS reference relative to the extragalactic frame. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5091 (GTO High Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations greater than +/-30 degrees. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5981 (Calibration of Nearby Type IA supernova as Standard Candles: NGC-4639) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of Cepheid variable stars in Galaxy NGC-4639 (which has produced a Type IA Supernova) to calibrate the nova's absolute brightness so that it can be used as a standard candle for distance measurements. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5132 (A Photometric Search for Planets of Nearby Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric observations of nearby star HD128620, Proxima Cent and HD128621 to search for possible planets. The exposure time was calculated so that area beyond 1.2 arcseconds from the central star is not saturated. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.8 Completed GHRS/2 5466 (The Interaction Between Io and the Plasma Torus) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make Echelle spectrographic observations of the plasma torus surrounding the planet Jupiter which is generated by its moon Io. Of particular interest is the O II emission line at 2471 A0. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5772 (PC Imaging of Gravitational Lenes, WF/PC-2 Augmentation, Carryover) The WF/PC-2 was used to make deep exposure observations of the gravitational lens system 2118+132. The images were obtained in two band passes, with the longer wavelength filter intended for the lensing galaxy and the shorter for the quasar. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed GHRS/2 5599 (GHRS Side 2 Sensitivity Monitor: Cycle 4) The High Resolution Spectrograph was used to make some long term sensitivity monitoring by making observations of standard star BD+28D4211. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 14 Successful : 14 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: There were four data inversion during operations with STGT. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
