HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1388 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 05/10/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 05/11/95 Daily Status Report as of 131/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies: A PC Snapshot Imaging) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the core region of galaxies NGC-4449, NGC-4281, NGC-4498, NGC-1336, and IC3115 to provide statistics on the nuclear cusps, stellar condensations, and inner stellar disks and dust lanes. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of ESO353-G9 to study the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in the AGN. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5655 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 2: Flats Part 2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a visual flat. The observation was completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5981 (Calibration of Nearby Type IA Supernova as Standard Candles: NGC-4639) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of Cepheid variable stars in Galaxy NGC-4639 (which has produced a Type IA Supernova) to calibrate the nova's absolute brightness so that it can be used as a standard candle for distance measurements. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5663 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4: Photometric Calibration Monitor: Fields Part 2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of globular cluster NGC-5139 with various filters in order to check the photometric calibration of the WF/PC-2. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.6 Completed GHRS/2 5466 (The Interaction Between Io and The Plasma Torus) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make Echelle spectrographic observations of the plasma torus which is a result of the interaction of the planet Jupiter and its moon Io. Of particular interest is the O II emission line at 2471 A0. The observations were completed and scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxies 3C265.0 and 3C274.1 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxies' morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 6143 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Photometric Calibration: Smaller Set, Part II) The WF/PC-2 was used to make single CCD calibration observations of standard star GRW+70D582 to monitor the photometric stability and quantum efficiency of the PC1 and WF3. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 19 Successful : 19 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: There were no reported operational problems. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
