HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1389 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 05/11/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 05/12/95 Daily Status Report as of 132/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5655 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 2: Flats Part 2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make both dark and visual flats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.2 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies: A PC Snapshot Imaging) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the core region of galaxies NGC-4414, 0325-3442, 0333-3237, NGC-1428, and 0344-3505 to provide statistics on the nuclear cusps, stellar condensations, and inner stellar disks and dust lanes. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of IC1816 and TOL0109-38 to study the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in these AGNs. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5397 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance Scale: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of galaxy NGC-4725 to be used in measuring the periods of Cepheid variable stars within this galaxy. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed GHRS/1 5720 (Composition of Gas in Individual Interstellar Clouds: Cycle 4 Carryover) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make observations of star HD215733 which is located in the galactic halo. The objective of this study is to the interstellar gas by observing interstellar absorption lines of various degrees of ionization, and various galactic latitudes. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed GHRS/2 5466 (The Interaction Between Io and the Plasma Torus) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make Echelle spectrographic observations of the plasma torus surrounding the planet Jupiter which is generated by its moon Io. Of particular interest is the O II emission line at 2471 A0. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5629 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Photometric Calibration Monitor 1C: 4-Chip STD in F170W) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric calibration observations of the ultraviolet standard star GRW+70D582. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed FOS/BL 6146 (FOS Location of Spectra and Aperture - Part 2) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to conduct a test to determine the repeatability of positioning the filter-grating wheel. All observations were internal. Wave length, dark and taled calibration images were also taken. All observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxy 3C216.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxy's morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed FOS/RD/BL 5537 (Cycle 4 Superflat Spectral Flat Fields) The Faint Object Spectrograph was used to make observations of ultraviolet standard star BD+28D4211 which has a relatively featureless spectra. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 11 Successful : 11 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: There were no reported problems in any onboard subsystem. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
