HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1390 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 05/12/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 05/15/95 Daily Status Report as of 135/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies: A PC Snapshot Imaging) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the core region of galaxy NGC-4430, UGC-7943, NGC-4330, NGC-4377, IC769, NGC-4339, NGC-4200, NGC-4270, NGC-4519, NGC-1419 and NGC-4233 to provide statistics on the nuclear cusps, stellar condensations, and inner stellar disks and dust lanes. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5574 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4: Polarization Proposal) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of NGC-4147 to obtain both polarized and unpolarized images of the target to calibrate the instrument. Visual flat observations was also taken. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias, K-Spot, and flat calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the optical alignment, and to check for contamination. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed FGS 5686 (Ultra High Resolution Studies of AGNs with the FGS: Cycle 4 Carryover) The FGS#3 was used in the TRANS mode to make astrometric observations of AGN M-87 which is known to have a milliarcsec structure in their nuclei at radio wavelengths. If any structure is found, more observations will be made to look for signs of superluminal motion. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5370 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations as part of a medium-deep sky survey. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5572 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4: Photometric Filter Calibration) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of NGC-5139 to make photometric calibrations for all of the WF/PC-2 filters. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxies 3C187.0 and 3C268.2 as part of a continuum survey and to study these galaxies' morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed Two Sets of FOS/BL 6146 (FOS Location of Spectra and Aperture - Part 2) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to conduct a test to determine the repeatability of positioning the filter-grating wheel. All observations were internal. A wave length calibration image was also taken. All observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of MARK938 and TOL2327-02 to study the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in these AGNs. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed Two Sets of GHRS/2 5382 (Boron as a Probe of the formation of the Galactic Halo) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make observations of the low-metallicity halo star BD-13D3442 to help learn more about the chemical and dynamical evolution of the galaxy. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.11 Completed FOS/BL 5658 (White Dwarf Calibration) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make absolute sensitivity calibrations of the detectors using standard white dwarf star HZ43. The observations were executed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 13 Successful : 13 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 24 Successful : 24 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 27 Successful : 27 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: There were no reported operational problems during the entire weekend period. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
