HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1391 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 05/15/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 05/16/95 Daily Status Report as of 136/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed GHRS/2 5546 (GHRS Side 2 Threshold Adjustment Test: Cycle 4) The High Resolutions Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to determine the threshold levels for the noisy channels within the unit. A dark calibration image was also taken. The observations were executed as scheduled and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed FOC/96 5708 (Bulge Populations in S0 Galaxies: Cycle 4 Carry-Over) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make ultraviolet observations of hot stars in the central bulge of the S0 class galaxy NGC-3115 to study its stellar populations. The observations were completed as planned and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5370 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations as part of a medium-deep sky survey. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6142 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Earth Flats, Smaller Set Part II) The WF/PC-2 was used to make Earth Flat calibration images for the ultraviolet and narrow-band filters to correct for the telescope's illumination pattern. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5091 (GTO High Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations greater than +/-30 degrees. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5562 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor 3: Darks) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain several 30-minute long, dark exposures to provide ongoing calibration of the CCD dark current and to monitor and characterize the evolution of hot pixels. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5397 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance Scale: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of galaxies NGC-4725 and NGC-4414 to be used in measuring the periods of Cepheid variable stars within the galaxies. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxies 3C184.0 and 3C294.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxies' morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5629 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Photometric Calibration Monitor 1C: 4-Chip STD in F170W) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric calibration observations of the ultraviolet standard star GRW+70D582. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 5352 (Gravitational Lensing Studies With HST: Dark Matter and High Redshift) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a deep image of the gravitationally lensed system CL2244-02. The main target is a set of giant arcs within the system. The observation was completed with no reported problems. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 6 Successful : 6 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: On Sunday, the COSTAR Deployable Optical Bench (DOB) was successfully moved in order to improve the FOC focus. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
