The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5132 (A Photometric Search for Planets of Nearby Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric observations of nearby star HD128620 to search for possible planets. The exposure time was calculated so that area beyond 1.2 arcseconds from the central star is not saturated. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed FGS 6147 (Extragalactic Astronomy and Astrophysics Final: Cycle 4 Observations) The FGSs were used to make observations of targets NEWEGOB-36, 1620-REF, 1621-REF, 1622-REF, NEWHIP-36, NEWEGOB-36, 1622-REF, 1621-REF, and 1620-REF. The objective of this long-term program is to determine the rotation of the HIPPARCOS reference relative to the extragalactic frame. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5091 (GTO High Latitude Parallel Program: Cycle 4) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations greater than +/-30 degrees. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5397 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance Scale: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of galaxy NGC4725 to be used in measuring the periods of Cepheid variable stars within the galaxies. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias, K-Spot, and flat calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the optical alignment, and to check for contamination. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed GHRS/2 6288 (Eclipse Mapping of the Chorospheric and Transition Region Structure) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make observations of star HD50337 (aka, HR2554) during the eclipse of its class A1 dwarf secondary star by the class G6 II primary star. The dwarf secondary star will be used as a light source to observe the plasma absorption lines in the outer atmosphere of the primary star. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.10 Completed FOC/96 5491 (Young Galaxies and the IG Medium) The Faint Object Camera (f96) was used to make spectroscopic observations of two starburst galaxies at Z~0.4 to measure the size of the discontinuity at the Lyman limit. Images were also made to locate the zero point of the spectra and to resolve structural details in these previously unresolved objects. The proposal completed with no reported problems. 1.11 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 5370 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 was used in parallel with the prime science observations to make high galactic latitude observations as part of a medium-deep sky survey. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.12 Completed WF/PC-2 5369 (HST Medium-Deep Survey: Cycle 4 Medium, High Galactic Latitude) The WF/PC-2 made a series of observations of high latitude objects as part of a medium deep sky survey. The observations were taken in parallel with other prime science observations. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.13 Completed FOC/96 5708 (Bulge Populations in S0 Galaxies: Cycle 4 Carry-Over) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make ultraviolet observations of hot stars in the central bulge of the S0 class galaxy NGC-4321 to study its stellar populations. The observations were completed as planned and no anomalies were noted. 1.14 Completed Three Sets of FOS/RD 5532 (FOS Dark Monitoring) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to monitor the instrument's background (dark) images. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.15 Completed WF/PC-2 5981 (Calibration of Nearby Type IA Supernova as Standard Candles: NGC-4639) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of Cepheid variable stars in Galaxy NGC-4639 (which has produced a Type IA Supernova) to calibrate the nova's absolute brightness so that it can be used as a standard candle for distance measurements. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.16 Completed FOS/BL and GHRS/2 5501 (The Structure of the Coma Cluster: A Search for Cool Absorbing Gas) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) and the Goddard High Resolution Spectrograph (Side 2) were used to make observations of the intergalactic medium within the Coma Cluster by studying the spectra in the line of sight from QSO-1258+2. They are looking for evidence of absorption from cool gas within the cluster. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.17 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of PKS2158-38 to study the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in the AGN.
