HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1396 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 05/22/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 05/23/95 Daily Status Report as of 143/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5782 (Saturn Ring Plan Crossing, May 1995) The WF-PC-2 was used to obtain photometry of Saturn's rings, when the Earth passed through the ring plane. The photometry will provide information about the thickness of the rings and about precession rate of Saturn's pole. The observations completed with no reported problems. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6216 (Saturn's Ring Atmosphere) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain images of Saturn's rings when they are edge-on to the Earth. The objective is to detect an "OH atmosphere" associated with the rings. Different filters will be used to discriminate between dust and OH emission, and to subtract scattered light. These observations will be used to determine exposure times for a later series of ring-plane crossing observations in August. The proposal completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5629 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Photometric Calibration Monitor 1C: 4-Chip STD in F170W) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric calibration observations of the ultraviolet standard star GRW+70D582. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed FOS/BL 5658 (White Dwarf Calibration) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make absolute sensitivity calibrations of the detectors using standard white dwarf star HZ43. The observations were executed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 9 Successful : 9 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 14 Successful : 14 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: A data inversion occurred during STGT operations.
