HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1406 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 06/06/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 06/07/95 Daily Status Report as of 158/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias, K-Spot, and flat calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the optical alignment, and to check for contamination. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5655 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 2: Flats Part 2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make both dark and visual flats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.3 Completed Two Sets of FOC/96 5148 (A Search for Massive Stars in Giant III Regions in M31) The FOC/f96 observed BA423, and BA1-2, HII regions of various metallicities in M31. Color magnitude diagrams will be constructed for the massive stars within the region, and the upper mass cutoff will be studied, adding to the understanding of star formation. The observation was completed with no reported problems. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6252 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 4 Crafting Test) This parallel program uses the WF/PC-2 and target fields at galactic latitudes above 10 degrees. Galactic star counts and the structure of the galactic halo will be studied. The observation completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed FOS/BL 6022 (The ZZ Ceti Instability Strip and Stellar Convection) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make observations of ZZ Ceti class star WD1422+095 (aka, GD165) which is a pulsating white dwarf which is known to vary a few tenths of a magnitude in short time scales of about 10 minutes. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6251 (Medium Deep Survey - Crafting Test) The WF/PC-2 was used in this continuation of the medium deep survey. The proposal is targeting rare objects (lenses, peculiar galaxies, faint stars) and sources related to the faint blue galaxy problem. This observation was completed with no reported problems. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5397 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance Scale: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of galaxy NGC-4725 to be used in measuring the periods of Cepheid variable stars within this galaxy. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5980 (The Jet of 3C273) The Planetary Camera was used to image the jet of 3C273. The objective is to study the morphology of the jet at high resolution. The investigators are particularly interested in comparing these data with optical and radio maps to investigate the mechanism for particle acceleration, which occurs all along the jet. The proposal completed with no reported anomalies. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 4 Successful : 4 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 10 Successful : 9 There was a roll delay update at 157/1315Z, which was caused by an accumulated bias error. An attitude reference update was uplinked to the spacecraft before a slew at 157/1321Z. There was no reported effect to on-going science operations. HSTAR 5213 documented this event. 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: There were no reported operational problems. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
