HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1412 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 06/14/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 06/15/95 Daily Status Report as of 166/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FOS/BL 6146 (FOS Location of Spectra and Aperture - Part 2) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to conduct a test to determine the repeatability of positioning the filter-grating wheel. All observations were internal. A wave length calibration image was also taken. All observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed Two Sets of GHRS/1 5595 (GHRS ECH-A Wavelength Monitor: Cycle 4) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side 1) was used to make wavelength spectral lamp calibration observations to measure the instrumental characteristics of the Echelle-A spectrograph. At 166/0217Z, a NSSC-1 status buffer message occurred indicating that the number of step corrections during spectrum Y-balance exceeded the maximum allowed value. This is a routine, though relatively infrequent, error that was documented in HSTAR 5217. In any event, the observations were completed as planned, and no problems or unexpected data have been reported by the observer. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5479 (Subarcsecond Structure in Nearby AGNs) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot observations of the nearby active galactic nuclei of MARK1149 to study the interactions between the central engine, the stars, and the interstellar matter in the AGN. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxy 3C16.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxy's morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5446 (The Nuclei of Nearby S0 and Spiral Galaxies: A PC Snapshot Imaging) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the core region of galaxy NGC-1374 to provide statistics on the nuclear cusps, stellar condensations, and inner stellar disks and dust lanes. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed FOS/RD/BL 5537 (Cycle 4 Superflat Spectral Flat Fields) The Faint Object Spectrograph was used to make observations of ultraviolet standard star BD+28D4211 which has a relatively featureless spectra. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.7 Completed FOC/96 5140 (Observations of the Narrow Line Regions in Nearby Seyfert Galaxies) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make observations at several wavelengths of Seyfert galaxy MARK573 and Cygnus A, to study the narrow line region, the morphology relations between radio and optical emission and continuum and line emissions, et. al. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 6252 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 4 Crafting Test) This parallel program uses the WF/PC-2 and target fields at galactic latitudes above 10 degrees. Galactic star counts and the structure of the galactic halo will be studied. The observation completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5397 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance Scale: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of galaxy NGC-4725 to be used in measuring the periods of Cepheid variable stars within this galaxy. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 21 Successful : 21 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: Except for the anomalous event reported in 1.2 above, there were no reported operational problems. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
