HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1422 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 06/28/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 06/29/95 Daily Status Report as of 180/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6276 (Peculiar and Interacting Galaxies (WC01): Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of galaxy NGC-6251. The spatial resolution afforded by the HST is expected to reveal important facts concerning the nature of this object. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5568 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Decontamination) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal flat field calibration observations using the VIS lamp and the internal source as part of decontamination operations. A dark calibration image was also taken. The observations completed nominally, and there were no reported problems. 1.3 Completed FOS/BL 5837 (Ultraviolet Imaging and Spectroscopy of the Icy Galilean Satellites) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make ultraviolet observations of Jupiter's moon Europa to study the albedo features caused by SO2 absorption. These observations will be coordinated with the IUE Spacecraft and other ground based observations. Although there were two failures to coarse track during acquisitions for this proposal (one was described in yesterday's report), there have been no reported problems with the science. 1.4 Completed GHRS/2 5887 (The Depletion Behavior of Chromium Relative to Zinc ) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make observations of stars SK157 and SK69 which are located in the Large Magellanic Cloud. The intent is to measure the relative abundances of Cr II relative to Zn II in the interstellar medium. Because zinc does not deplete onto dust grains while chromium does, their abundance ratio measures dust distribution. A wavelength calibration image was also taken. The observations were completed as planned, and there were no reported anomalies 1.5 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5655 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 2: Flats Part 2) The WF/PC-2 was used to make both dark and visual flats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6126 (Evolution of Binary Neutron Stars and their White Dwarf Companions) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of binary STAR-0034 (A neutron star/pulsar and its white dwarf companion). The photometry will be used to determine the cooling age of the dwarf star. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 4 An acquisition at 179/1051Z failed on FGS #2, but successfully went to coarse track backup on FGS #3.
