HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1431 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 07/12/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 07/13/95 Daily Status Report as of 194/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FGS 5557 (Intermediate Plate Scale: Cycle 4 Calibration) FGS #3 was used to make astrometric observations of stars 4727-25, HD65949, 4727-J-REF, 4727-H-REF, 4727-227-R, et. al. to be used for plate scale calibrations. These stars were also observed using the HIPPARCOS satellite. The observation were executed as schedule, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5971 (HST Medium Deep Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a long exposure medium deep sky survey observations at latitudes larger than 10 degrees taken in parallel with the prime science observations. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6229 (Stellar Populations in the LMC and the SMC) The WF/PC-2 was used to obtain images of two regions of the LMC, and one in the SMC. The objective is to construct color magnitude diagrams for these regions. The luminosity function and stellar formation history of the clouds will then be derived. The proposal completed uneventfully. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6135 (Uncovering Misidentifications of Bright Galactic X-Ray Binaries) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the suspected X-Ray binary star NP-SER. This is to study why some X-Ray binary stars exhibit anomalies in their spectra which cannot be explained by conventional models. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed GHRS/2 5855 (Boron in Li- and Be- Deficient F Type Stars) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make spectrographic observations of F class stars HD150680, HD159332 and HD185395 to study its boron abundances, and its lithium depletions. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5864 (Mass Loading Stellar Winds in Hydrogen-Poor Planetary Nebulae) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the hydrogen-poor planetary nebula PK81-14D1 (aka, Abell 78) to study its stellar winds and the interaction with the nebula. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6131 (Brown Dwarf Binaries in the Pleiades) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of brown dwarf binary stars in the Pleiades (aka, M-45). It is hoped to confirm the duplicity of these suspected binaries. The observations were completed and schedules, and no anomalies were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 One acquisition, at 194/030609Z, failed to coarse track.
