HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1432 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 07/13/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 07/14/95 Daily Status Report as of 195/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6135 (Uncovering Misidentifications of Bright Galactic X-Ray Binaries) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the suspected X-Ray binary star CAL-87. This is to study why some X-Ray binary stars exhibit anomalies in their spectra which cannot be explained by conventional models. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 6227 (The H II/PDR Interface and Other Small Scale Structure in H II Regions) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the H II region known as the Hourglass within M-8 (aka, The Lagoon Nebula in Sagittarius) to study the H II/PDR interface and other small scale structures. The Hourglass presents a good opportunity to study a photo-evaporative flow driven by an extremely intense radiation field. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported, although the guide star acquisition at 194/030609Z failed to coarse track (reported in yesterday's 2.1). 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6190 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make an internal flat filter sweep and an internal preflash level test. The internal lamp is also used as a source for the preflash test. The observation was executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed FOS/BL 5948 (Damped Lyman Alpha Absorption Lines in Moderate Redshifted Galaxies) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue side) was used to make observations of the moderate redshift galaxy PG1451-375 to study its damped Lyman Alpha absorption lines. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5476 (Continuum Snapshots of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot images of radio galaxy 3C105.0 as part of a continuum survey and to study the galaxy's morphology. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6131 (Brown Dwarf Binaries in the Pleiades) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of brown dwarf binary stars in the Pleiades (aka, M-45). It is hoped to confirm the duplicity of these suspected binaries. The observations were completed and schedules, and no anomalies were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6149 (High Resolution Imaging of the Nuclear Stellar Clusters in AGN N1365-LRF) The WF/PC-2 was used to make high resolution observations of the nuclear stellar cluster NGC-1365 located in AGN N1365-LRF. The purpose is to determine if there is a star cluster in this region that contributes to the emission, or if it is due exclusively to the central engine. The observations were executed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed FOS/BL 6146 (FOS Location of Spectra and Aperture - Part 2) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to conduct a test to determine the repeatability of positioning the filter-grating wheel. All observations were internal. A wave length calibration image was also taken. All observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 12 Successful : 12 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: The Battery #1 Capacity Test has been completed, although revised ground system limits have not yet been set. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
