HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1434 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 07/17/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 07/18/95 Daily Status Report as of 199/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FGS 6177 (Intermediate Plate Scale Calibration) The FGSs were used to make astrometric observations of stars HD65929, 4727-25, et al to perform an intermediate plate scale calibration in the central region of the FGS. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5971 (HST Medium Deep Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make long exposure medium deep sky survey observations at latitudes larger than 10 degrees taken in parallel with the prime science observations. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed Five Sets of FOC/96 5944 (The Featureless Continuum and The Star Burst AGN Connection in Seyfert II Galaxies) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make observations of type II Seyfert galaxies IC3639, NGC-3081, NGC-3393, Mark463 and NGC-5135 to study the almost featureless blue continuum radiation in their active galactic nuclei. Spectrographic detection of P-Cygni type absorption features would be evidence for the presence of luminous OB stars. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported, although during one set, at 198/222118Z, an FGS acquisition failed to coarse track. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6310 (A Photometric Search for Planets of Nearby Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric observations of the nearby star HD128620 (aka, the Alpha, Beta Cent and Proxima Cent Complex) looking for possible planets. The exposure times were calculated so that areas beyond ~1.2 arc seconds from the central stars will not be saturated. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed Four Sets of WF/PC-2 6188 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Dark) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal dark calibration images. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported, alough during one set, at 198/222118Z, an FGS acquisition failed to coarse track. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was used to make some long exposure observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations. These were a random sample of high galactic latitude fields. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6133 (The Most Massive Stars in the Magellanic Clouds) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of star SK-70D69 which is known to be one of the most massive stars in the Magellanic clouds (maybe up to 200 solar masses). It is not clear whether or not these objects are single stars. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 6137 (A Search for Brown Dwarfs and Luminous Young Planets in the Hyades) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of M class star RHY047 which is located in the Hyades cluster looking for planetary and brown dwarf companions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5963 (Search For Externally Illuminated Proto-Planetary Systems in S106) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the H II region of S106S looking for possible externally illuminated proto-planetary system (i.e., proplyds). The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 One acquisition failed to coarse track at 198/222118Z.
