HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1435 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 07/18/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 07/19/95 Daily Status Report as of 200/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was used to make some long exposure observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations. These were a random sample of high galactic latitude fields. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.2 Completed FOS/RD 5950 (Spectroscopy of the Three UV Brightest Known High-Redshift Quasars) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make ultraviolet observations of quasar HE-1122-16 which is know to be one of the brightest high redshift quasars. The objectives are to measure the C, N, O, and Ne abundances in the halos of early galaxies, to measure the intensity of the ionizing UV background, to measure He I, and to study the Lyman-Alpha forest. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was used to make some long exposure observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations. These were a random sample of high galactic latitude fields. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6310 (A Photometric Search for Planets of Nearby Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric observations of the nearby star HD128621 (aka, the Alpha, Beta Cent and Proxima Cent Complex) looking for possible planets. The exposure times were calculated so that areas beyond ~1.2 arc seconds from the central stars will not be saturated. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6133 (The Most Massive Stars in the Magellanic Clouds) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of star AV488 which is known to be one of the most massive stars in the Magellanic clouds (maybe up to 200 solar masses). It is not clear whether or not these objects are single stars. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5560 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Monitor. 1) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several internal bias, K-Spot, and flat calibration observations to monitor the CCD camera electronics, the optical alignment, and to check for contamination. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed FGS 6262 (High Speed Astrometry - Barnard's Star) The Fine Guidance Sensors were used to make high speed astrometric observations of Barnard's Star and seven reference stars. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed FOS/RD 6217 (UV Spectra of BL Lac Object AO0335+164) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make ultraviolet spectrographic observations of BL Lac object AO0235+164 which is known to have weak emission lines and metallic absorption lines at two different redshifts. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5971 (HST Medium Deep Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a long exposure medium deep sky survey observations at latitudes larger than 10 degrees taken in parallel with the prime science observations. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 9 Successful : 9 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 17 Successful : 17 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: No operational problems were reported. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
