HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1437 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 07/20/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 07/21/95 Daily Status Report as of 202/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FOS/RD 5850 (A Definitive Test for the Excitation of Liners) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make ultraviolet and visible spectral observations of the large elliptical galaxy (Class Ep) NGC-4486 (aka, M-87) located in the Virgo cluster. Portions of the spectrum should provide definitive evidence for the cause of the excitation in LINER AGNs. Shock excitation produces strong UV emissions, while photo-ionizations do not. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was used to make some long exposure observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations. These were a random sample of high galactic latitude fields. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.3 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5957 (Snapshot of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations for radio galaxies 3C273.0 and 3C42.0 to study the morphology of these radio galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed FOC/96 5944 (The Featureless Continuum and The Star Burst AGN Connection in Seyfert II Galaxies) The Faint Object Camera (f/96) was used to make observations of type II Seyfert galaxy MARK477 to study the almost featureless blue continuum radiation in its active galactic nuclei. Spectrographic detection of P-Cygni type absorption features would be evidence for the presence of luminous OB stars. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 5629 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Photometric Calibration Monitor 1C: 4-Chip STD in F170W) The WF/PC-2 was used to make photometric calibration observations of the ultraviolet standard star GRW+70D582. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed Two Sets of GHRS/2 5855 (Boron in Li- and Be- Deficient F Type Stars) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) were used to make spectrographic observations of F class star HD10166 to study its boron abundances, and its lithium depletions. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6283 (Stellar Populations in Elliptical Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make several deep images of the elliptical galaxy IC4051 and its globular clusters using two different color filters to study its stellar populations. The galaxy is located in the Coma Cluster. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 17 Successful : 17 2.3 Significant HSTARs: None 2.4 Operations Notes: There were seven instances of data inversions during opertions at STGT.
