HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1445 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 08/01/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 08/02/95 Daily Status Report as of 214/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6189 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal Monitor - Vis Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal visual flat calibration images. Both photometric and narrow-band filters were used. The observations were executed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5957 (Snapshot of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations for radio galaxy 3C3320.0 to study the morphology of the radio galaxy. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed GHRS/2 5856 (Abundances of Very Heavy Elements in the Early Galaxy II) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make spectrographic observations of old, metal-poor halo star HD126238 to measure the abundances of very heavy elements. This information will provide constraints on the early history and chemical evolution of the galaxy. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6250 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal Monitor) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal bias, internal flat images and K-Spot calibrations to monitor the health of the cameras. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed FGS 6270 (The Parallax of RW Tri) The FGS were used in the POS Mode to make astrometric observations of old nova RW Tri and several other reference stars to measure their parallax. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was used to make some long exposure observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations. These were a random sample of high galactic latitude fields. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.7 Completed FGS 6267 (Parallax of Feige 24) The FGS were used in the POS Mode to make astrometric observations of the white dwarf star FEIGE 24 and several reference stars in order to measure their parallax. The target is one of the first white dwarfs found to be an EUV source and subsequently has been found to be an X-Ray source and an interacting binary. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking ultraviolet observations running concurrent with prime science observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.9 Completed Two Sets of FGS 6063 (Continuation of Mass Ratio Determination for Doubles) The Fine Guidance Sensors were used to make POS and TRANS mode astrometric observations of double star L722-22-00. This binary star system contains a low mass star and a brown dwarf. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 17 Successful : 17 2.3 Operations Notes: During the period 214/0045Z to 214/0554Z a series of PRS interface problems occurred, probably caused by a local area network problem. Through persistence and hard work by the DOC crew, the operations team was able to successfully uplink the NSSC-1 loads between failures. An HSTAR is in the process of being written. An RMGA calibration was completed at 213/1320Z. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
