HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1450 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 08/08/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 08/09/95 Daily Status Report as of 221/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6189 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal Monitor - Vis Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal visual flat calibration images. Both photometric and narrow-band filters were used. The observations were executed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.2 Completed FOS/BL 5926 (The Excitation Mechanism of Extended Emission Line Regions) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) was used to make ultraviolet spectrographic observations of knots in the extended emission line region of the active galactic nuclei of galaxy NGC-5643 to study it excitation mechanism. The intent is to determine if radiative autoionization shocks help heat the gas in the extended emission line region. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.3 Completed Four Sets of WF/PC-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was used to make some long exposure observations taken in parallel with the prime science observations. These were a random sample of high galactic latitude fields. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6250 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal Monitor) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal bias, internal flat images and K-Spot calibrations to monitor the health of the cameras. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6188 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Dark) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal dark calibration images. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.6 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6190 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: Internal Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make an internal flat filter sweep and an internal preflash level test. The internal lamp is also used as a source for the preflash test. The observation was executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6119 (Snapshot Survey for Companions of Planetary Nebula Nuclei) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of planetary nebula K1-22 to study its nuclei and to look for possible companions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5932 (Morphologies of High Redshift Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations the high redshift galaxy GAL-0214-1 (at distance Z>2) in order to study its morphology, especially the fine detail in clumping. The images were obtained in the continuum and in Lyman-Alpha. The observations were executed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed GHRS/1 5879 (The Deuterium to Hydrogen Ration in the Interstellar Medium) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make spectrographic observations of the late type star HD22049 in order to study the interstellar medium. The objective is to determine the deuterium to hydrogen ratio in the interstellar medium in the line of sight to this star. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 9 Successful : 9 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 9 Successful : 9 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 12 Successful : 12 2.3 Operations Notes: There were no reported operational problems. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
