HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1460 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 08/22/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 08/23/95 Daily Status Report as of 235/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5974 (The Evolution of Radio Loud Quasars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the radio loud large redshift quasar MRC0451-28. The purpose is to determine if this galaxy is from the same parent population as other kinds of radio galaxies already studied using HST. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5924 (Nuclear Emission Line Region Associated with Compact Flat Spectrum) The WF/PC-2 was used to make spectrographic observations of the nuclear emission region of galaxy NGC-5318 to study its compact flat spectrum. There is evidence that this jet-produced AGN is powered by accretion disks feeding massive black hole. The observations were executed as schedule, and no anomalies were noted, despite a guide star acquisition failure to coarse track at the beginning of this proposal. This failure was reported in yesterday's report and was documented in HSTAR 5255. 1.3 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6189 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal Monitor - Vis Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal visual flat calibration images. Both photometric and narrow-band filters were used. The observations were executed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed FGS 6037 (Continuation of an Astrometric Search for Planetary Companions to Proxima-Cent) The FGSs were used in the POS mode to make astrometric observations of the star Proxima-Cent and a sub-set of eight reference stars. This is to look for the presence of a planetary companion. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6188 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Dark) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal dark calibration images. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.6 Completed FGS 6274 (Linking the HIPPARCOS to the Extragalactic Reference Frame) The FGS #3 was used to make astrometric observations of extra-galactic object (EGO) 2005-498, and reference stars 820-REF, 821-REF, 822-REF, INCA221-13, et. al. in order to link the HIPPARCOS satellite to the extragalactic reference frame. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/P-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was use to make random long exposures of high galactic fields taken in parallel with the prime science observations to obtain a random sample of galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed FOS/RD 5847 (Stellar Kinematics Near the Nucleus of M-32: The Central Black Hole) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make observations of the nuclear region of Galaxy M-31 (aka, NGC-221, the Andromeda Galaxy) to study its kinematics and to attempt to strengthen evidence for a massive central black hole. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5971 (HST Medium Deep Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a long exposure medium deep sky survey observations at latitudes larger than 10 degrees taken in parallel with the prime science observations. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 2 Successful : 2 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 13 Successful : 13 As reflected in HSTAR 5256, a loss of lock occurred at 235/024533Z. 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 6 Successful : 6 2.3 Operations Notes: There were no operational problems. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
