HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1465 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 08/29/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 08/30/95 Daily Status Report as of 242/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 5957 (Snapshot of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of radio galaxies 3C379.0 and 3C303.1 to study the morphology of these radio galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed FOS/RD/BL 6043 (The Interaction of Supernovae with their Curcumstellar medium) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Both Red and Blue Sides) was used to make ultraviolet observations of Type 3 supernova remnant SN1994Y to study its interaction with the curcumstellar medium and the supernova blast wave, which itself is a product of the stellar wind from the supernova progenitor. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6191 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 4 Calibration: UV Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to take some ultraviolet calibrations flats using several different filters. A dark calibration image was also taken to check for possible after images. No problems were reported. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5971 (HST Medium Deep Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make long exposure medium deep sky survey observations at latitudes larger than 10 degrees taken in parallel with the prime science observations. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted 1.5 Completed GHRS/2 5876 (A GHRS Study of Curcumstellar Gas Around Proto-Planetary System Candidates) The High Resolution Spectrograph was used to make spectrographic observations of the proto-planetary system candidate HD217782 to study its curcumstellar gas. A wavelength calibration image was also taken. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5972 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance Scale) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the galaxy NGC-1365 looking for standard candle Cepheid variable stars. The purpose of these observations is to help estimate the Hubble constant with an accuracy of 10%. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6231 (Nuclear Stellar Clusters in AGN) The WF/PC-2 was used to make high resolution observations of the active galactic nuclei of Seyfert galaxy NGC-1566 to study nuclear stellar clusters. The observations will test for the existence of a dense star cluster in the nuclear region of the galaxy. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 9 Successful : 9 2.3 Operations Notes: There was an approximate ten minute loss of realtime engineeering data during operations at STGT. The reason is currently unknown. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
