HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1475 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 09/13/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 09/14/95 Daily Status Report as of 257/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of GHRS/2 6172 (CRIMP2: Cycle 5 Condensed-Regimen Integrated Monitoring Program) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to obtain darks, internal flats (in photoscan mode), wavelength calibrations and observations of standard star BD+28D4211. This includes detector calibration, sensitivity monitoring, and wavelength monitoring. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed Four sets of WF/PC-2 6219 (The Vertical Structure of the Atmosphere of Neptune) The WF/PC-2 was used to make multi-color image observations of the planet Neptune at different longitudes in order to study the vertical structure of its atmosphere. The data will be used to place constraints on the composition and vertical structure of the clouds and haze above the main cloud deck. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6119 (Snapshot Survey for Companions of Planetary Nebula Nuclei) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of planetary nebula SP3 to study its nuclei and to look for possible companions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed Five Sets of GHRS/1 6171 (CRIMP1: Cycle 5 Condensed-Regimen Integrated Monitoring Program) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to obtain darks, internal flats (in photoscan mode), wavelength calibrations and observations of standard star BD+28D4211. This includes detector calibration, sensitivity monitoring, and wavelength monitoring. The second and fourth iterations of this proposal were terminated by the NSSC-1 during the internal flat observations due to the excessive number of bad quality GHRS data reported in telemetry. These events were recorded in HSTARs 5284 and 5287, respectively. The remaining observations were executed as scheduled, and no further anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed GHRS/1 5870 (Dead or Sleeping Status of Magnetic Dynamos in "Maunder Minimum") The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make far ultraviolet observations of solar type star HD29647. This star exhibits weak, non-variable Ca II emission and a long rotation period. The implication is that this star may have a weak magnetic field and undergoing a "Maunder Minimum". The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6095 (Hot Stellar Populations in Globular Cluster Cores) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of globular cluster NGC-6652 to study the radial gradients of the hot stellar population in its core region. Observations were made in the blue, violet and far ultraviolet. The FGS acquisition for this proposal failed due to the search radius limit being exceeded. HSTAR 5285 was written. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5760 (The Search for Super Planets Around Weak T-Tauri Stars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make I-Band observations of T-Tauri Class star HBC388 in order to search for possible super planets by looking for thermal radiation from the planets in orbit around this star. The observations were completed as scheduled, and the only problem was reported in HSTAR 5286. During the internal flat, the flat field lamp 1 current flagged high for one telemetry sample. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5353 (Low-Mass Binaries in the Hyades: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of the low-mass, late M-Class dwarf star RHY244 which is located in the Hyades cluster. Some of the companion stars may be brown dwarfs. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 5972 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance Scale) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the galaxy NGC-1365, looking for standard candle Cepheid variable stars. The purpose of these observations is to help estimate the Hubble constant with an accuracy of 10%. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 9 Successful : 9 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 27 Successful : 27 2.3 Operations Notes: There were no significant operational problems. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
