HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1478 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 09/18/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 09/19/95 Daily Status Report as of 262/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6184 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Photometric Calibration Monitor UV/Opt STD) The WF/PC-2 was used to make ultraviolet and optical calibration images of standard star GRW+70D582. The purpose is to monitor the photometric stability and quantum efficiency of the WF/PC-2 from the far ultraviolet to the near-IR. During these observations, after a successful FGS reacquisition at 261/112243Z, there were at least three losses of lock, with the take data flag going down in each instance. HSTAR 5294 describes the events. There were no other reported problems. 1.2 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5353 (Low-Mass Binaries in the Hyades: Cycle 4 High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of the low-mass, late M-Class dwarf stars RHY199 and RHY115 which are located in the Hyades cluster. Some of the companion stars may be brown dwarfs. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6189 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal Monitor - Vis Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal visual flat calibration images. Both photometric and narrow-band filters were used. The observations were executed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5974 (The Evolution of Radio Loud Quasars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the radio-loud large redshift quasars MRC2257-27 and MRC2256-21. The purpose is to determine if these galaxies are from the same parent population as other kinds of radio galaxies already studied using HST. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed GHRS/2 6077 (Boron Abundances in Orion and Boron Production in Type II Supernovae) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make spectrographic observations of the young star HD36285 which in the Orion OB1 association to measure the abundance of boron. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed GHRS/2 5869 (Chromospheric Activity in Quiet stars: Halo Subdwarfs) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make spectrographic observations of the quiet star HD19445 to study its chromospheric activity. This is a search for Mg II emission in low metallicity solar temperature field stars in the galactic halo. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5978 (Host Galaxy of Distant Radio Quasars) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the host galaxy of distant radio-loud quasar 3C455.0. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 6119 (Snapshot Survey for Companions of Planetary Nebula Nuclei) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of planetary nebula NGC-6804 to study its nuclei and to look for possible companions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed GHRS/1 5859 (Major NLTE Corrections to HST Boron Observations?) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make spectrographic observations of star HD61421 (aka, Procyon) to study its boron (B II) abundances. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 12 Successful : 12 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 There were several losses of lock after the successful reacquisition at 261/112243Z. HSTAR 5294 was written to document these events. 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 25 Successful : 25 2.3 Operations Notes: There were no significant operational problems encountered 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
