HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1485 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 09/27/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 09/28/95 Daily Status Report as of 271/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6119 (Snapshot Survey for Companions of Planetary Nebula Nuclei) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of planetary nebulae NGC-7662, NGC-6026 and EGB1 to study their nuclei and to look for possible companions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed FOS/RD and WF/PC-2 5844 (HST Investigation of a Bright, New Comet) Both the Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) and the High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) were used to make observations of the bright new comet Hale-Bopp (aka, Comet C/1995 O1). The images will yield information of the nuclear size and coma near the nucleus. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 6189 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal Monitor - Vis Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal visual flat calibration images. Both photometric and narrow-band filters were used. The observations were executed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed FOS/RD 6059 (Imaging Low-Mass Companions of Nearby Stars) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Red Side) was used to make observations of low-mass nearby star GL293 to search for possible faint companions. The bright star was placed behind an occulting bar. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking ultraviolet observations running concurrently with prime science observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5954 (The Exceptionally Bright, Compact Starburst Galaxy 0833+652) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the exceptionally bright, compact starbursting galaxy 0833+652 (aka, GAL-083824). The main goal of this project is to place constraints on the massive star population resulting from the starburst. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.7 Completed GHRS/1 6082 (GHRS Spatially Resolved Spectra of Nova Cygni 1992) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make spatially resolved spectrographic observations of the central star Nova-Cygni-1992 system and of a ultraviolet bright knot in the ejecta. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems with the science data were reported, although HSTAR 5305 documents a higher than nominal enclosure 5-1 temperature for almost five hours beginning at 271/071501Z. At the time the HST was in an off-nominal roll of 16 degrees. The high temperature limit is 1.00 degrees C, and enclosure 5-1 temperature reached 1.69 degrees C. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 10 Successful : 10 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 7 Successful : 7 2.3 Operations Notes: There was a 6 minute, 4 second non-recoverable loss of realtime 32K engineering data due to unspecified problems at STGT. A TTR was written. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
