HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1488 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 10/02/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 10/03/95 Daily Status Report as of 276/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6114 (White Dwarf Distance and Precision Age for the Globular Cluster 47 Tuc) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of white dwarf stars WD0002+729 and WD0644+375 which are located in the globular cluster 47 Tuc in order to study the clusters age and distance. This set of observations will be used to determine the distance to 47 Tuc, hopefully to an accuracy of better than 10%. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5913 (Low Mass Binaries and the Luminosity Function. ) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the low mass binary star system SPG002 (a late-type M class dwarf) to study the local stellar luminosity function. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5939 (Evolution in the Isotropic Properties of BL Lac Objects) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the BL Lac object QSO1832+56 in order to study its evolution and isotropic properties. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5957 (Snapshot of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of radio galaxy FR533N33 to study the morphology of the radio galaxy. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed FOS/BL 6038 (Winds of Massive Stars in Nearby Galaxies, the WR Stars) The Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue side) was used to make spectrographic observations of the massive Wolf-Rayette star M-33-OB10-3 which is located in the M-33 Galaxy in order to study its stellar winds. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5907 (Colour Magnitude Diagrams of two Super-Metal-Rich Globular Clusters) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the super-metal-rich globular cluster NGC-224-G1. The high resolution of the PC will allow individual stars to be distinguished, from which the investigator can build a colour magnitude diagram of this unusual cluster. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed GHRS/1 6088 (Ultraviolet Tomography of the Chromosphere of the K2 Dwarf in V471 Tau) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make Rapid Mode ultraviolet tomographic observations of a K2 class binary dwarf star and its eclipsing binary white dwarf companion which are located in the cluster V471-Tau in order to study its chromosphere. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were reported. 1.8 Completed GHRS/1 6070 (Interstellar Tin: Probing Galactic S-Process Element Enrichment) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side One) was used to make Echelle A observations of star HD57061 in order to probe for interstellar tin and to study the galactic S-process neutron capture of element enrichment. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 There was a one-minute, 50-second loss of lock during FL guiding beginning at 276/020808Z.
