HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1489 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 10/03/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 10/04/95 Daily Status Report as of 277/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 6250 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal Monitor) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a series on internal calibration observations. Internal flats, biases, and K-Spot calibration images were taken. These observations are designed to monitor the health of the cameras. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed GHRS/2 5860 (Detection of ^11B/^10B and Galactic Chemical Evolution) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used in the Echelle Mode to make spectrographic observations of star HD76932 to study the isotope-split Boron-11 and Boron-10 lines at 2090 A0. A wavelength calibration observation was also taken. About an hour after this 15-hour proposal began, at 276/020808Z, there was a one-minute, 50-second loss of lock that was reported in yesterday's report and in HSTAR 5315. No other problems were reported. 1.3 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6188 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Dark) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal dark calibration images. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 and FOS/RD 5976 (Herbig-Haro Object Near the Orion Nebula) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of NGC-1976 (aka, M-42, The Orion Nebula.) looking for possible Herbig-Haro objects. The images will be used to determine the excitation mechanisms of the HH objects, and their interaction with the nebula and cloud gas. The observations were completed as plan, and no anomalies were reported. 1.5 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 5911 (Massive Star Formation in M-31) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations in the northeast spiral arm of NGC-224 (aka, M-31, The Andromeda Galaxy) looking for indications of massive star formation. The observations were made using several different filters. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 5913 (Low Mass Binaries and the Luminosity Function. ) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the low mass binary star system MT009 (a late-type M class dwarf) to study the local stellar luminosity function. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 One acquisition, at 277/035441Z, failed to fine lock back-up on FGS-1 only. HSTAR 5319 was written to document the event. There were four cases when the FGSs experienced loss of lock. Scheduled Reacquisitions : 7 Successful : 7 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 15 Successful : 15 2.3 Operations Notes: There was one instance of data inversion during STGT operations. A TTR was written. Another TTR was written because there was no RF or command link to the HST for 21-minutes, 31-seconds due to software problems at STGT. Services were re- scheduled, and the STR suffered no loss of data. There was some loss of engineering data due to the re- scheduling, however. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
