HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1490 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 10/04/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 10/05/95 Daily Status Report as of 278/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 6188 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Dark) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal dark calibration images. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5913 (Low Mass Binaries and the Luminosity Function. ) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the low mass binary star system MT006 (a late-type M class dwarf) to study the local stellar luminosity function. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed FGS 6262 (High Speed Astrometry - Barnard's Star) The Fine Guidance Sensors were used to make high speed astrometric observations of Barnard's Star and seven reference stars. At the beginning of the proposal, at 277/035441Z, the FGS acquisition failed to fine lock back-up on FGS-1 only, with no roll control. HSTAR 5319 was written. No other anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed Two Sets of WF/P-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was use to make random long exposures of high galactic fields taken in parallel with the prime science observations to obtain a random sample of galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed Two Sets of FOS/BL and WF/PC-2 6042 () The WF/PC-2 was used to make images and the Faint Object Spectrograph (Blue Side) made spectrographic observations of ejecta from Eta Carina. This is to study the gas kinematics, physical conditions in the ejecta and abundances of elements in the gas. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6119 (Snapshot Survey for Companions of Planetary Nebula Nuclei) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of planetary nebulae NGC-6781 and A61 to study their nuclei and to look for possible companions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 5983 (Circumstellar Disks in Young Nebulous Clusters) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the young nearby nebulous cluster NGC-7023-1 looking for possible curcumstellar disks (Solar nebula analogs), like the type seen in the Orion Nebula. As reported in HSTAR 5321, the FGS guide star acquisition for this proposal failed on FGS 3 at 277/1440Z, tracking on FGS 1 only. Star presence was set but there was no Data Valid Flag. This event may have been caused by a deficient guide star. 1.8 Completed WF/PC-2 5957 (Snapshot of 3CR Radio Galaxies) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations for radio galaxy 3C458.0 to study the morphology of the radio galaxy. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 6009 ( Jovian Stratospheric and Tropospheric Circulation and Structure) The WF/PC-2 was used to make high resolution, multi-filter observations of the planet Jupiter to study its stratospheric and tropospheric circulation and structure. This study is being done several months before and after the Galileo probe enters the atmosphere on Dec. 7, 1995. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.10 Completed Two Sets FGS 6040 (Ultra-High Angular Resolution of O3 Stars in the Carina Nebula) The FGSs were used in the TRANS Mode to make ultra-high resolution astrometric observations of the O3 class stars HD93128 and HD303308 which are located in the Carina Nebula. This is to determine if this object is a single star or a multiple star system. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.11 Completed WF/P-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was use to make random long exposures of high galactic fields taken in parallel with the prime science observations to obtain a random sample of galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 9 Successful : 8 One acquisition, at 277/1440Z failed on FGS 3, tracking on FGS 1 only.
