HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1491 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 10/05/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 10/06/95 Daily Status Report as of 279/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed FGS 6036 (Detection and Mass Determination of Low Mass Companions to nearby M Dwarf) The FGSs were used in both the POS and TRANS Modes to make astrometric observations of low mass companions to M class dwarf star GL275 and four reference stars. This will lead to a mass determination for the stars. The observations were completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.2 Completed WF/P-2 6254 (GTO Pure Parallel Program - Cycle 5) The WF/PC-2 was use to make random long exposures of high galactic fields taken in parallel with the prime science observations to obtain a random sample of galaxies. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.3 Completed FOC/96 6161 (FOC/96 Cycle 5 Aperture Location Monitor) The Faint Object Camera was used to make astrometric standard field observations of NGC-188-51 to monitor the location of the camera's f/96 apertures with respect to the V2-V3 coordinate frame. A dark calibration image was also taken. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking ultraviolet observations running concurrent with prime science observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.5 Completed WF/PC-2 6009 (Jovian Stratospheric and Tropospheric Circulation and Structure) The WF/PC-2 was used to make high resolution, multi-filter observations of the planet Jupiter to study its stratospheric and tropospheric circulation and structure. This study is being done several months before and after the Galileo probe enters the atmosphere on Dec. 7, 1995. The observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were reported. 1.6 Completed FGS 6047 (Calibrating the Mass Luminosity Relation at the End of the Main Sequence) The FGS were used to make astrometric observations of star GL748 as part of a study to determine its mass luminosity relationship. The purpose is to measure the precise parallax and relative orbit of its faint companion. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed WF/PC-2 6095 (Hot Stellar Populations in Globular Cluster Cores) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of globular cluster NGC-1851 to study the radial gradients of the hot stellar population in its core region. Observations were made in the blue, violet and far ultraviolet. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.8 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 6119 (Snapshot Survey for Companions of Planetary Nebula Nuclei) The WF/PC-2 was used to make snapshot survey observations of planetary nebula NGC-3195 to study its nuclei and to look for possible companions. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.9 Completed WF/PC-2 6295 (Imaging the Atmosphere of Titan and Its Surface) The WF/PC-2 was used to make ultraviolet and near infrared observations of Saturn's Largest moon Titan to study its atmosphere and surface. The observations were taken near Saturn's opposition. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 6 Successful : 6 The acquisition at 279/043438Z intitally failed due to the scan step limit being exceeded. The second attempt resulted in the acquisition failing to fine lock back-up on FGS-1 only. HSTAR 5323 was written. Scheduled Reacquisitions : 11 Successful : 11 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 15 Successful : 15 2.3 Operations Notes: There were data inversions during STGT operations. A TTR was written. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
