Observations were made in the blue, violet and far = ultraviolet. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems = were reported. 1.10 Completed WF/PC-2 6187 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Earth Flats) The WF/PC-2 was used to make Earth streak flat calibration images. = These streak flats will be used to produce flat fields, to map the OTA = illumination pattern and, in combination with other data, to produce new = superflats. The observations were completed as planned, and no problems = were reported. 1.11 Completed WF/PC-2 5999 (The Nuclear Structure of S0 Galaxies: A PC = Imaging Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of S0 class NGC-1553 in = order to study its nuclear structure. This is a part of a large survey of = S0, E/S0, and S0/a class galaxies. The targets will cover a wide range in = luminosity and environment. The observations were completed as planned, = and no anomalies were noted. 1.12 Completed WF/PC-2 6250 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: Internal = Monitor) The WF/PC-2 was used to make a series on internal calibration = observations. Internal flats, biases, and K-Spot calibration images were = taken. These observations are designed to monitor the health of the = cameras. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies = were noted. 1.13 Completed GHRS/2/1 5830 (The Small Icy Particles of the A and B = Rinds of Saturn) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Sides One and Two) were used to = make spectrographic observations of the A and B rinds on the planet = Saturn. Voyager and IUE spectra show a strong absorption near 1650 A0 that = may be to small water ice particles and/or water vapor. Observations were = also made of its moon Rhea. The observations were executed as planned and = no anomalies were reported. 1.14 Completed GHRS/2 6056 (Spectroscopy and Imagery of the Orion = Nebula) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make = observations of selected sections of the Orion Nebula (aka, NGC-1976). A = wavelength calibration image was also taken. The observations were = completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.15 Completed WF/PC-2 5353 (Low-Mass Binaries in the Hyades: Cycle 4 = High) The WF/PC-2 was used to make images of the low-mass, late M-Class dwarf = star RHY138 which is located in the Hyades cluster. Some of the companion = stars may be brown dwarfs. The guide star acquisition failed at 288/0115Z = due to F1 star selector compensation error flag. HSTAR 5332 was written. = No other anomalies were noted. 1.16 Completed WF/PC-2 5899 (The Central Structure of the = Collapsed-Core Globular Cluster NGC-6283) The WF/PC-2 was used to make deep image observations of the = collapsed-core region of globular cluster NGC-6284 to study its central = structure. The degree of concentration of the core and of different = components will test theories of dynamical evolution of dense stellar = systems. The guide star acquisition failed at 288/2065Z. After the = previous guide star acquisition failed (HSTAR 5332, in 1.15), a large = vehicle slew and single axis update maneuvers, on FGS #1 (secondary) = exceeded the search radius. After numerous attempts, both stayed in = default. A ARU/PRT maneuver was executed at 288/0320Z, and it saved the = next reacquisition. There was a Loss of Lock by a star selector compensator error at = 288/0514Z. The reacquisition at 288/0514 occurred in Loss Of Signal (LOS). = At AOS, the FGS achieved Fine Lock, the F1 star selector compensation = error A/B was flagged, causing the FGSs to return To SSM control, and then = began searching again. This happened approximately once per minute for 40 = minutes. HSTARs 5332 and 5333 were written. 1.17 Completed WF/PC-2 6215 (Saturn's Aurora and Airglow) The WF/PC-2 was used to make ultraviolet observations of the planet = Saturn in order to study its airglow and auroral regions.
