HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE DAILY REPORT #1507 PERIOD COVERED: 0000Z (UTC) 10/30/95 - 0000Z (UTC) 10/31/95 Daily Status Report as of 304/0000Z 1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED: 1.1 Completed Three Sets of WF/PC-2 6188 (WF/PC-2 Cycle 5 Calibration: = Dark) The WF/PC-2 was used to make internal dark calibration images. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no problems were reported. 1.2 Completed WF/PC-2 5972 (Determination of the Extragalactic Distance = Scale) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of the galaxy NGC-2541 = looking for standard candle Cepheid variable stars. The purpose of these = observations is to help estimate the Hubble constant with an accuracy of = 10%. The observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were = noted. 1.3 Completed WF/PC-2 5999 (The Nuclear Structure of S0 Galaxies: A PC = Imaging Survey) The WF/PC-2 was used to make observations of S0 class galaxy = NGC-1332 in order to study its nuclear structure. This is a part of a = large survey of S0, E/S0, and S0/a class galaxies. The targets will cover = a wide range in luminosity and environment. The observations were = completed as planned, and no anomalies were noted. 1.4 Completed WF/PC-2 5839 (Gamma Ray Burst Counterparts in the = Ultraviolet) The WF/PC-2 was used to make ultraviolet observations of object = GRB790406 which is thought to be an optical counterpart of a gamma ray = burster. Three filters from the blue to the ultraviolet were used. The = observations were completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.5 Completed FGS 6063 (Continuation of Mass Ratio Determination for = Doubles) The Fine Guidance Sensors were used to make POS and TRANS mode = astrometric observations of double star L722-22-00. This binary star = system contains a low mass star and a brown dwarf. The observations were = completed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 1.6 Completed WF/PC-2 6253 (Pure Parallel Archive Program) The WF/PC-2 was used to execute a pure parallel program taking = ultraviolet observations running concurrent with prime science = observations. The intent is to search for extra-galactic sources with = flux excesses at 3000 A0 and galactic sources with excesses at 1600 A0. = The observations were completed as planned, and no problems were reported. 1.7 Completed GHRS/2 6261 (Structure in Moderate Column Density, Low = Redshift Lyman Alpha Absorbers) The High Resolution Spectrograph (Side Two) was used to make = spectrographic observations of low redshift quasar PG1116+215 to study the = structure in the Lyman-Alpha absorption associated with galaxies along the = line of sight. A wavelength calibration image was also taken. The = observations were executed as scheduled, and no anomalies were noted. 2.0 FLIGHT OPERATIONS SUMMARY: 2.1 Guide Star Acquisitions: Scheduled Acquisitions : 5 Successful : 5 Scheduled Reacquisitions : 8 Successful : 8 2.2 FHST Updates: Scheduled : 11 Successful : 11 2.3 Operations Notes: There were no significant operational problems. 3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS: Nothing at this time. /DMH -END-
